Hanger Trio Returns
For Tuesday Concert
The Howard Hanger Trio will
perform at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in
Radford Memorial Auditorium on
the McMurry College campus
says Dr. Bert Affleck college
chaplain.
"With humor depth of Chris-
liun cuinmilment relevant style
sincerity and just plain great mu-
sic the trio communicates the
Christian faith to all ages in to-
day's scene and makes partici-
pants out of hearers not just
in a concert but in the world"
says Thomas L. Jones a high of-
ficial in the U. S. Presbyterian
Church of the Howard Hanger
group.
Pianist Howard Hanger is at
the center of this trio which uses
the medium of jazz for what has
been called "spontaneous liturgy."
Hanger is a graduate of Emory
University and Candler School of
Theology who also happens to be
an accomplished musician. He ac-
tually gave his first recital at
the age of nine.
Diummer Paul Reeve began
with a rock band but has also
tried his hand at everything from
jazz Latin American style to
symphonic music with members
of the Atlanta Symphony.
Bass player Mike Glvens cur-
rently a business administration
major at Georgia State College
is also studying with the Atlanta
Symphony. He has toured with
a folk group and is currently very
interested in polytorial and poly-
rythmic experiments.
The Hanger Trio draws from
any and all sources of material
from a Gregorian Chant in 138
time to a Bach chorale from Bru-
beck to the Beatles.
Experimentally since they or-
ganized in 19G5 the trio has set
to music liturgies from "The Book
of Common Prayer" and Malcolm
Boyd to name only two.
The aim of the trio is to "im-
plement creative innovative ex-
periences of worship in the right
ways."
The program will take place
during the regular convocation
period but is open to the general
public admission free.
The trio appeared at McMurry
two yeais ago. The response was
enthusiastic and students asked
Dr. Affleck this year to bring
these musicians back for another
appearance.

WATER WORRIES . . . While
rain poured down outsido Ed Rob-
inson senior vacuums water from
the inside. The bottom floor of tho
science building flooded when a
valve on the ground level broke.
Tho event was a minor repetition
compared to the accident that oc-
cured this summer when a water
hose on the second floor burst.
Water Soaked Campus
Then the Rains Came
"Rain rain go away . . ." might
have expressed the sentiments of
many Abilene residents last
w e e k. On the Reservation
"Water water everywheie . . ."
may have been more appropriate.
According to tho United States
Weather Bureau approximately
2 8G inches of rain fell in Abilene
from Monday through Thursday.
But some McMurry students got
more water than others.
Sophomore John Riddle en
countered quite a water problem
in his penthouse in the Pit.
Unfortunate events began soon
after ho arrived at school this
fall. First there was the puddle
in front of the refrigerator cre-
ated during a rather hap-haznrd
defrosting job.
Riddle soon discovered an un-
usual characteristic of his lava-
tory. Water not only came out of
the faucets but under certain cir-
cumstances water also came out
of the drain.
After a few dry days Riddle
let his guard down and his win-
dow up. While he was out of his
room a bulldozer excavating
near Gold Star struck a water
pipe. Resulting was a spray of
water which formed a semi-moat
about the dorm and carried water
inside tho dorm.
Pit power was again drowned;
Riddle saw more water. Then for
four days water fell giving other
students a taste of Riddle's medicine.
Riddle wasn't even safe during
classes. Biology took him to the
science building which received
its share of water.

Fust there was the second floor
soaking that was caused by a
bursted water hose according to
Hcrchel Bates maintenance sup-
erintendent. September 9 a second
science centei water problem
arose when a valve failed to op-
erate pioperly.
Many students living in "dry"
West Texas for the first time may
be wondering about the validity
of the association of Texans and
tall tales. Well ask any native
Abilcnian about rain. But talk to
John Riddle when you have real
water problems.
