Hie concentrate, known as “vac-
cinia immune gamma globulin,"
wa# developed by Dr. C. Henry
Kompe, assistant professor of pedi-
atrics at the university.
Dr. Kompe developed the serum
in Indl* In 1952 after collecting
blood from volunteer* in the U;, S.
armed force* who had been vac-
cinated a short time before.
The serum Kompe extracted

tain high concentration, of anti-
bodies “against the virus used to
smallpox vaccinations. A test on

American texts were available to
the student* but that they cost

textbooks they would otherwise

cents apiece. With the proceeds he
