The McMurry Indinns TIAA
title hopes remained alive Mon-
day night after squeezing by the
Austin College Roos 78-75 at
Hunt Gym in a conference game.
The win was the second
straight at home for the Indians
as they also won last Friday
night by defeating Wayland
Baptist 81-75. Both wins av-
enged earlier season loses to the
same teams.
With the regular season down
to the final two weeks the In-
dians find themselves in a
three-way race with Sul Ross
und Trinity for first place.
Balance scoring seemed to be
the way the Indians won both
games as no less than four
players were in double figures in
both games
Monday night David Nelson
Terry Crocker and Nickcy Mar-
tin each pumped in 16 points
followed by Steve Mackey's 12
points Mackcy also grabbed 11
rebounds and Nelson pulled
down nine
The Indians were behind only
a couple of times and then by
only two points but could not
put the gume uway because of
the determined effort on the
Roos. The biggest lead far
McMurry was seven points on
the evening and usually the
score was closer than that.
Repeatedly though the In-
dians fought off the Roos and in
the end it was Ronnie Courtney
hitting the front end of a one and
one that iced the game.
The visiting Roos hit an in-
credible 64.4' in the first half of
the game to stay close at half-
time 47-43. In the second half
the Roos cooled off from the field
and ended that game at 51.8.
The Indians shot under 50ft at
home for the first time in recent
times and hit 49.21 for the
game.
In the Wayland game five In-
dians topped the 10-point bar-
rier. Nelson was the leading
scorer with 18 points followed
by Cave Baum with 16 and
Mackcy Martin and Mike Bycrs
with 13 apiece.
The Indians led by 10 points nt
halftimc and kept the margin
constant throughout the becond
half for the win.
These two victories will play a
big part in the Indians' NAIA

District 8 playoff quest. The top
(bur teams at the end of the year
will qualify for the District 8
playoffs with the eventual win-
ner going to the nationals.
In the TIAA Sul Ross leads
with a 4-1 record with Trinity
second at 4-2 (following Monday
night's upset loss to Tarleton
State) and McMurry is 3-2. The
Indians face Trinity this Satur-
day night in San Antonio before
coming home for the final two
home games.
Those two will be next Mon-
day and Tuesday against Sul
Ross. Monday's game will be a
conference battle while
Tuesday's will not.
