" Sylvester said he is "sold on”
the Texas City plan and thinks
- it might be well for Baytown to
consider the cost of financing a
similar setup, feut he made no
recommendations to the commis-
sion.
Bill M. (Bill) Knowles, who is
studying street and highway
planning, told the commission he
thought it should undertake «
campaign in behalf of the $15
million Harris County freoway
right-of-way bond issue that will
be submitted to the voters a sec-
ond ime on Sept. 8.
But the commission decided it
could accomplish more toward
putting over the bond issue in-
dividually than collectively.
Knowles said the Junior Cham-
ber of Commerce, of which he is
president, planned ail open forum
discussion of the proposed bond
issue at which Commissioner V.
V. Ramsy of Precinct 2 would be
invited to explain how the bonds
will help East Harris County -
and Baytown in particular.
McDonald suggested that mem-
bers of the planning commission
conduct a telephone campaign in
the various precincts for support of
the highway bond issue . He said
he would personally contact five
persons in his precinct and ask
them to contact everyone in the
precinct. /
"That's the only way we’re go-
ing to put this thing over," Mc-
Donald said.
All members of the eight-man
planning commission were present
at the Thursday night meeting ex-
cept Lynn A- Seaman, whose topic'
of study is water distribution and
storage. '
Commiseion Chairman Milton U
"Campbell presided.
