Bascom Giles Is Counting His Prison Days
Review In April, If not before. I board is not required to make
“doesn't mean anything but re- any recommendation of clemency
view," Board Chairman T. B. at any time.
White explained.
The board may, or may not,
recommend parole. After that, the
governor—in this case governor
elect Price Daniel—would approve
or reject the board’s recommen-
dation, if parole was recommend-
ed.
White explained that in such
reviews, the board takes into
consideration:
The prisoner's previous crimi-
nal record. Giles had none.
His prison conduct and attitude.
Giles has been termed a model
prisoner, and as a construction
trusty rates a designation accord-
ed few inma«%.
The nature of the offense com-
mitted. On this latter score,
indicated the former state
elected to office nine times, might
face a high IturdK, '

second to marriage.
Miss Truman, in her first inter
view since she became a bride
last April. 21, discussed her fu-
ture.
She also took notice of all those
gossip columnist reports she is
expecting. "I came down with a
virus for a couple of weeks," she
laughingly commented, "and that
really started the talk. Certainly
we hope to have children. But
those rumors I keep hearing . . .
well, they’re just rumors.”*
The blonde, 32-year-old daughter
- of former President Harry Tru-
man said she will continue her
musical career, and just might be
lured into a stage role "if the
right thing came along."
She still studies voice — three
lessons a week — and has an
NBC contract* which runs until
September 1957. It calls for spe
cial rather than regular appear-
ances on television.
"I certainly plan to go on work-
ing," she said. “I'm no less am-
bitious now , , , but naturally
marriage is more important.’*
Matter of fact, she said, she
probably will be a betfpr wife be-
cause "I oned was strictly a ca-
reer girl. I learned to budget my
time ... I hope this lesson car-
ries over to my new life."
I pointed out to her that she was
a Leap Year bride and asked who
actually proposed. "He did of
course,’’, she answered. “I'm an
old-fashioned girl about those
things.”
The trumpet call of the whoop-
ing crane can be heard for about
three miles.
