Failure of the gas company to
notify the city of It* recent increase
in the industrial rate proved to be
of great concern to the council.
After discussing Jurisdiction set
forth by the city charter, both
parties agreed that the council has
the right to regulate the Industrial
rate, as well as the residential and
small commercial rate.
But most cities, Including Hous-
ton, Dallas and others, Hinds told
councilman, do not interfere with
Industrial contracts. "There’s just
too much bargaining and arbitra-
tion involved.” Hinds said. “The
"cities do not want to bother with It.”
Noting dissatisfaction of the
council over the recent industrial
rate increase, Hinds said he favored
the company’s giving the city sev-
eral days’ notice of an anticipated
industrial raise in the future.
Commented Councilman Rufus
Bergeron, “We don’t have any pro-
