Vermont Spruce Stands
in Rockefeller Center
NEW YORK (AP) - A 55-foot
white spruce arrived by truck
from Vermont today to serve as
the Christmas tree by the ice
rink in Rockefeller Center.
“It’s one of the nicest ever,”
said an electrician. “See how
full it is at the top. That way
you know it's full and beautiful
all the way down.”
A carpenter said: “They say
it’s a shame to cut down a tree
that’s lived for so long, but
there are lots more where this
came from.
“And more people will see
here than if it lived for 100
yean. Call it a short life but a
merry one.”
The tree’s 6,000 lights will be
turned on Dec. 12.____
