Baytown remodeled
Weiner’s Stores Inc., Houston-based, fami-
ly-owned retail clothing chain has announced
the remodeling of its Baytown store located at
1801 Garth.
The store has undergone a complete makeov-
er. New lighting and fixtures have been
installed over 30,000 square feet of shopping
area. These fixtures include contemporary
display grids in several departments.
These displays allow the store to feature high
fashion brands in a new high tech style.
Significant additions were also made to the
shoe department. Slatwall was added to
increase the display area, while new fixtures
allow a self-service approach to the athletic
shoes.
According to Andy Weiner, director of store
services, the remodeling of the Baytown store
shows the confidence the company has in
Baytown and the East Harris County area.
Remodeling has been completed, according
to Louis Thompson Jr., regional supervisor,
and Janet Cooper, store supervisor.
The Baytown store management team
includes Manager Ernest Rivera and Assistant
Manager Carol Ayers.
Ownership change
for Monument Inn
HOUSTON — Monument
Inn, the 25-year-old landmark
restaurant near the San Jacinto
Monument, has been sold by
longtime owners Dick and
Glenna Tanenbaum to up-and-
coming restaurateurs Ann and
Bob Laws.
The Monument Inn is located
on a 9-acfe site at 2716 Battle-
ground Park. Occupying
approximately 14,622 square
feet, die restaurant seats "250
guestsjn its main dining room
and-"250 in private banquet
r$oms.
'The transaction was finalized
July 9 after the Small Business
Administration approved
financing through Fidelity
National Bank. The deal closed
at nearly $1 million.
Ann Laws started her restaur-
ant career as a waitress at
another Tanenbaum establish-
ment — The Atchafalaya River
Cafe — in early 1984. By year’s
end, she had been promoted to
assistant manager; she was
appointed general manager in
August 1985 and director of
operations in March 1986.
Under Tanenbaum’s tutelage,
Laws assisted in opening three
other Atchafalaya River Cafe
locations in Houston and Dallas;
and began overseeing Monu-
ment hm jin 1986.
According to Tanenbaum,
selling to the Laws was an easy
decision. “I’ve seen Ann grow
up in the industry, in my
restaurants. Buying Monument
Inn was the logical culmination
to her meteoric career. I also
like the concept of keeping the
restaurant a familly-owned
operation, the idea of it going
from the Tanenbaums to the
Laws — the next generation.”
