McMurry delegation plots assassination
My delegation walked Into the
massive General Assembly for
the opening ceremonies of Model
United Nations. We sat down
behind our stately placard which
boldly read "SYRIA". The room
which would comfortably seat 700
people was shrouded in dark
wood and added to the pres-
tigious occasslon.
The verbal roll call was the first
order of the evening. My heart
jumped Into my throat when the
chairman said "Syria". Intending
a deep strong voice I humbly
whispered in a soft high voice
"Syria is present." My first act as
Syrian delegate was a failure. The
assembly was then officially
opened and we broke for our
seperate bloc meetings.
Briefcase in hand I proudly
walked Into the Soviet bloc
meeting. The head delegate to
the U.S.S.R. promptly stated
"Ah! Our Soviet Puppets!" 1
immediately slammed my brief
Beatles' 'Yesterday' captured in
motion picture documentary
Twenty years ago this past
week a new era in American
music began with the first Ameri-
can tour by Paul John George
and Rlngo the boys from Liver-
pool known as the Beatles. There
has been much renewed Interest
of late in the Beatles' albums and
memorabilia and the production
of a feature-length documentary
film The Compleat Beatles.
The Compleat Beatles chroni-
cles the history of the group
tracing their social and musical
roots detailing their formation
and rise to fame through the
peak years to the decline and final
breakup of the band. There is a
great deal of footage from the
early years which makes the
case down and glared at the
entire group. I refused to shem
any sign of approval on my face.
The Soviets tried to crack the
Syrian troops and get them on
their side but a stubborn Syrian
is hard to break.
The committee meetings were
next and I found myself In the
back of the room dangerously
near my gated allies the Soviets.
The Soviet delegate for my par-
ticular committee was my favorite
puppeteer the head delegate. He
smiled at me to break the obvious
tension between us and I returned
it with a icy glare that would
freeze the Atlantic Ocean. The
severe hatred I felt for my Soviet
allies and Western enemies left
me at a loss. I realized I neecfed
somebody and it had to be the
U.S.S.R. However I refused to be
bullied by a super-power.
The next bloc meeting my
delegation consisting of Brian
Smith Pam Evans Greg Haw-

beginnings come alive. The film
is historically accurate without
boring you with facts and pro-
vides the viewer with a great deal
of information. It is a joy for a
"Beatlemanlac" and an enjoya-
ble experience for any music fan.
1984 is here according to Van
Halen. Their new album 1984 is
one of the most driving albums in
recent months. If you were dis-
appointed (as I was) in Diver
Down 1984 will restore your faith
in VH. The songs "Jump" and
"Panama" ore already popular
but there are other strong tracks.

thorne and myself marched into
the small room. The head dele-
gate of the U.S.S.R. dug another
foot of his grave by saying
"Welcome! Our starving nations
are here." We did not take this as
a joke. Again my delegation
walked out of this meeting with'
fierce revenge in our eyes.
In committee the head Soviet
bent over backwards to help the
Syrian delegation. I found by
working with them I managed to
get my own way. I realized there
was power in good relations. I
thus pulled an about-face in order
"Hot for Teacher" another of
David Lee Roth's "talking
songs" is a satire on high school
classrooms and recent films about
student-teacher extracurricular
activities. "Top Jimmy" is a
driving story of a musician who is
adored by his female fans. There
are other good tracks on this
album but these four are the
best.
1984 is a deporture for VH
because it marks the introduction
of the synthesizer as a lead
instrument in their music. But
1984 still sounds like Van Halen '
and It's hot.
Laughter can be
serious business
The column title is "A Laugh-
ing Matter." 1 have tried to write
humorous stories that would
make you laugh. This week Is not
a humorous story. It Is a story on
laughter.
Webster defines laughter as
"to make sounds and exhibit the
movements of the features In the
expression of mirth joy ctc.to
feel or suggest joyousness to
appear cheerful pleasant or
iively."
We all love to laugh. It is
Important every day to laugh.
Laughter makes you feel lighter
happier. Some laugh Instead of
cry though. Some nervously
laugh. They have no twinkle In
their eye; only a scared fright-
ened look. Some laugh In mean-
ness anger. Their eyes are cold
and wicked.
Have we abused laughter? Is it
as misunderstood as the words "I
love you?" Do wc ourselves really
understand what laughter is to
us? Do wc know why God gave us
laughter?
In closing I would like to share
this poem with you. I do not know
the author but whoever it was
had an inside look on laughter:
to benefit the Syrian cause. Later
in the General Assembly when
all the committees came to-
gether I found the Improved
relations quite benifidal. The
Soviets managed to save my neck
more times than I would like to
admit.
Confidence on our side now
the Syrian delegation became
rude and radical the way a good
third-world nation should be.
Taking In our success we took a
plot against the Israelis to the
Soviets. They supplied us with
arms and we briefed them on our
plans. The Soviets saw that at
3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon the
security would be preoccupied.
The plan was in motion.
Brian Greg and myself walked
down the stairs Into the speaker's
floor with cap guns at our sides.
Wc walked across the center in
front of 400 people. Getting a
little excited I tore in front of my

God gave us laughter to ba-
lance the tears of awareness.
God tent down and slUlaess.
The whoopsl of a mixed up
phrase.
Caricatures of our clumsiness
to keep u from taking our-
selves too seriously.
God said Did you hear why a
baby was born today?
I said Did you hear why the
chicken crossed the road?
We both laughed for the an-
swer was the same.
Swcr was tho same
God said I cried for you.
You only need to laugh and
love.
Dut if In a moment of bliss:
a tear slides from your eye.
I will be with you still.
In life most experiences can be
laughing mailers. Wc only need
to learn to laugh more.
assasinatlon crew and ran up to
the Israelis and started pumping
them full of caps. My co-assasslns
bacVed me up. Emptying our
guns Brian screamed "Die you
Zionist plgsl" and we quickly ran
out of the Assembly Room.
" Returning somewhat later we
discovered that we had lost all
voting and debating rights due to
our un-dlplomatic behavior. We
only grinned as the hysterical
laughter died down and the
voting started. The Israeli placard
went up and our new Soviet
friends yelled "They can't vote.
They're dead."
Throughout the entirety of the
conference (45 minutes) a serious
mood was never again obtained
and we the Syrian delegates
were drowned by notes com-
mending our cause.
My delegation went in knowing
nothing of the proceedure of the
Model United Nations and we left
a unified assasinatlon machine
only in America.
