Campus welcomes
children alumni
Homecoming at McMurry Is one of
the biggest events of the year. Tradi-
tions dating back many decades fill a
weekend with remembrances
laughter and love. Among the tradi-
tions carried on are the beating of the
drum the ceremonial Sun Set
Ceremony and the painting of the
Braves. Of the most authentic tradi-
tions that McMurry participates in is
the Tip! Village.
At the Sun Set Ceremony on Thurs-
day after the Spirit Indian shoots the
arrow into the air all the social club
members rush into Won Wohtaysce
Park to set up their teepees.
It is the busiest time of year for
McMurry's social clubs. Starting in
late September the clubs have had
workdays readying themselves for
Homecoming. This involves practicing
setting up the teepee and checking
equipment to use.
The Gass of 1934 will be celebrating
Its Golden Anniversary Reunion at a
luncheon on Friday. There is on
estimated fifty class members coming.
The Class of 1959 will be celebrating
their Silver Anniversary.
The Freshmen are a main focal
point of Homecoming. Every year the
freshman class is responsible for mak-
ing the headbands the children will
receive on Friday during tours of Tipi
Village. The freshmen arc also respon-
sible for the bonfire the making of
torches for the torchlight pep rally
and the beating of the drum. The
beating of the drum is done in on ALA
CUMBA beat which begins Thursday
and lasts through Saturday's game.
The annual Homecoming Show will
be held on Friday evening. Sponsored
by McMurry's Student Government
alumni and students participate.
A few of the alumni acts are: a sing-
ing quartet composed of Cindy
(Holden) Davenport 1980; Deb
South 1976; Commie Wolrath 1983;
and Ldgh (Bryan) Crane 1984. Tom-
my Greer a graduate from the class of
'34 will be singing playing the
trumpet and violin. He Is from Austin
and donated the ancient instruments
in Ryan Fine Arts Center in memory
of his wife. The student acts were not
known at press time although Music
Men will be singing.
At the end of the Homecoming
Show McMurry's royalty will be
crowned.
Nominees for the Freshman Gass
are Beth Parkman Brenda Barnes
Danny Rodriquez and Mark Krimm.
Sophomore Tavorite nominees are
Mary Lynn Thompson Jackie Ward
Doug Brown and Baker Bryant. The
Junior Favorites will be dedded bet-
ween Bill Duke Ron King Sheryl
Browning and Diana Harris. Senior
nomintcj arc Karen Raspberry Mary
Daniel Paul Berg and Jim Treden-
nick. Chief McMurry and Resevatlon
Princess nominees are Suzan Collins
Pom Evans Greg Hawthorne and
Randy Martin. After the show the
bonfire will be held.
Saturday is a busy day with club
reunion luncheons and Tipi judging.
The game between McMurry and
Tarleton will begin 1 2:30. The alumni
Bar-B-Q and dance will follow the
game.
