Pumpkin Cake Is Good
One For Xmas Holidays
College Station — Mrs. Gwen-
dolyn Clyatt, extension consum-
er specialist, recommends this
recipe for the holiday season and
as a good source of vitamin C.
Pumpkin Cake
1-2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar, firmly pack-
ed s
2 eggs, beaten
1 c. cooked, mashed pumpkin
or winter squash
3 c. sifted cake flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1-4 tsp. baking soda
1-2 c. milk
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 tsp. maple extract
Cream shortening and showly
add sugars, eggs and pumpkin.
Sift together flour, baking pow-
der and soda add alternately
with milk to mixture. Fold in
walnuts and extract.
Pour into 3 greased 8” layer
cake pans. Bake in moderate
oven 350 degrees - 30 min. Cool
and frost with Harvest Moon
Frosting.
Harvest Moon Frosting
3 egg whites, unbeaten
1 1;2 c, brown sugar, firmly
packed
Dash of salt
. 6 tblsp. water
1 tsp. vanilla
Combine in double boiler eggs,
sugar, salt and water. Beat well
place over rapidly boiling water.
Cook 7 minutes, beating cons-
tantly, or until frosting will stand
in peaks. Remove from boil-
ing water add vanilla. Beat
until thick enough to spread.
Put cake' layers together with
frosting. Frost sides, bringing
frosting slightly over top edge.
Frost top. akes enough frost-
ing for a 3-layer cake.

Is Bride of
K. Alvarado
Miss Diana Gonzalez and Ke-
reth R. Alvarado exchanged
their marriage vows Saturday
afternoon in the home of the
brides mother, Mrs. Librado
Gonzalez, with R. T. Whitten,
justice of the peace, performing
th ceremony.
Parents of the couple are Mrs.
Librado Gonzalez of Odem, Mrs.
Lois Alvarado and Frank B. Al-
varado of Houston.
The bride wore a white crepe
A-line dress designed with a
scooped neckline and long ta-
pered sleeves. The train was
held by a bow, and the veil
fell from a petal jeweled crown.
She carried a crescent bouquet
oi white blossoms and English
ivy.
The bride’s sister, Miss Yolan-
da Gonzalez, served as maid of
honor and Mrs. Florencio Gomez
was the matron of honor. The
bridesmaid was Miss Elvira Ra-
tion.
Gary Alvarado of Houston ser-
ved as his brother’s best man.
Groomsmen were Florencio Go-
mez and Tony Benavidez.
A reception was held in the
home of the bride’s mother. The
table was laid with a white lace
cloth and centered with an ar-
rangement of white and blue
blossoms. Silver candelabra and
a silver punch bowl were used
on the table opposite the wed-
ding cake.
The white skirted gift tables
were laid with blue cloths.
The bride chose a three piece
gold colored wool suit for tra-
veling. Her accessories were in
black and she wore a white cor-
sage
After a wedding trip to Mexico
City the couple will be at home
in Odem.
Out of town guests included re-
latives from Aurora, 111., Kansas
City, Mo. and Houston.
Local
Mr. and Mrs. James Webb
and daughters of Sinton ate din-
ner with her sister and family
Mr. and Mrs. Darrell White-
ley and children, Thursday. La-
ter in the day the women
and children went to the May
ranch near Berclair to hunt. Mrs
Whiteley and Debbie returned
home Friday. The remainder of
the group stayed on the ranch
until Saturday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs, Darrell Wal-
ters had as weekends guests,
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lockhart of
Houston.
Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Green
and children spent from Thurs-
day until Saturday with her
father, D. C. Short, and other
relatives in Austin.
Showers Held
Recently For
Miss Gonzales
Miss Diana Gonzalez was hon-
ored with two bridal showers
prior to her marriage last week.
A miscellaneous shower was
given in the home of Mrs. D. S.
Ridgeway on November 22.
Yellow roses were used at van-
tage points in the home. The
lace - laid service table held
an arrangements of roses as a
centerpiece.
Cake and punch were served,
b y Miss Yolanda Gonzales,
Miss Janie O’Canas and Miss
Vickie Martinez alternating in
serving the guests.
There were 25 guests at the
shower.
The teachers from Shelton and
Odem Elementary Schools were
hostesses for a surprise party
at Shelton School Tuesday af-
ternoon and presented a gift to
the honoree.
Refreshments were served to
the honoree and the teachers.
