Midway Starts Work on Super Gin
Ground was broken Tuesday
morning by the directors of the
Midway Gin on a new super Con-
tinental Moss-Gordon gin that
will be one of the most modern
gins in the. state of Texas. It
will incorporate all of the latest
advances made in recent years
in cleaning and ginning equip-
ment.
The heart of the new fully
automated gin wll be three su-
per gin stands, each equipped
with 141 saws. The stands are of
the push button, automatic type.
The gin is designed to turn out
15 to 20 bales of cotton per hour,
depending upon the type of cot-
ton being processed. This will en
able the gin to process approxi-
mately 6,000 bales in a ginning
season.
Construction is scheduled to
start on Thursday of this week
on a three acre tract of land im-
mediately south of the present
gin on land purchased from
M. T. Ivey. The gin proper will
be on the west end of the tract
and will face east. The area in
front of the gin, as well as a
large portion of the old gin yard,
will be used for the storage of
loaded and empty cotton trail-
ers. An elevated 90 ton seed
hopper will be located on the
rear of the building for seed
pick up. The trash hooper will
also be located behind the gin.
The gin will feature a new
sucker concept. The 20-inch pipe
will travel on over-head convey-
or that will allow a trailer to be
emptied without moving. Two
sucker stations will insure an
even flow of cotton into the gin
at all times. The suckers will un-
load into a bin inside the gin
that will automatically cut off
the air to the sucker when it is
full.
The majority of the dust and
blowing lint connected with old
type gins will be eliminated
from the new Midway plant. In-
stead of venting the exhaust air
from the cleaners to the outside
all of the dust is gathered and
introduced into the trash hop-
per where it is loaded onto trail-
ers for removal to fields. Mid-
