Odem Attorney Resigns
License To Practice Law
_An order of resignation against
Odem attorney Sheryll S. Dempsey
was entered by the Supreme Court
of Texas on December 12, 1997,
according to a'listing of recent disci-
plines issued by the Public
Information Department of the
State Bar of Texas.
A spokesman for the State Bar
said the ruling means the attorney
resigned her license to practice law
in lieu of possible disciplinary
action.
On June 10, 1996, a Final
Judgement of Suspension was
entered in San Patricio County
against Dempsey, who was suspend-
ed from the practice of law for a
period of one year beginning
September 3, 1996.
According to a State Bar docu-
ment, "Dempsey had been hired to
represent a client in a divorce and
accepted a $1000 retainer fee in
April 1996. At the time the suspen-
sion period began, Dempsey had
not completed her client's case, had
failed to safeguard a fee paid in
advance and failed to timely return
her client's unearned portion of the
fee upon her termination of repre-
sentation on September 3, 1996. By
her actions Dempsey violated Rules
1.14(a); 1.15(d); and 8.04(a)(7) of
the Texas Disciplinary Rules of
Professional Conduct."

With the Ag Show behind us, stu-
dents are now marking March on
their calendars, but before Spring
Break, there are numerous things
going on here at Odem High
School..
The Owls will be busy the first
week of February. Tuesday, the 3rd
is one of those days that should be
marked in big letters by our juniors
and seniors. The Coastal Bend
Financial Aid Night will be held at
the Bayfront Plaza Auditorium from
7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There will be
college representatives from numer-
ous area colleges and lending insti-
tutions. There will also be phone
lines setup so students can do their
financial aid forms right there that
night.
On February the '3rd, Texas
A&M, Laredo, will be on campus to
talk to our seniors. On the 5th, the
Owls will have another college
recruiter on campus from Denton,
Texas. She will talk to the senior
girls and boys interested in Texas
Women's University. So, week one
of February really gets things going
here at OHS. So, have a great week
and call if you have any questions.

Widening the existing overpass and
constructing a cross-over is also
included in the contract. This could
be used, if needed, for emergency
evacuation procedures.
The new lane will not be utilized
unless deemed necessary by the
State Emergency Management
Office. It is designed to serve as a
connection between northbound IH
37 and southbound IH 37 and
would be used if emergency evacua-
tion required that all traffic be rout-
ed northbound. Work should be
complete within three months.
