campus beautificution is taking place at McMurry. In the photograph
above workers prepare to plant a tree near Radford Auditorium. In
the photo at right the job is just about finished.
Students visit McMurry
for Student Preview
McMurry College will host a
number of area high school students
Jan. 27-29 during Student Preview
Weekend.
High school juniors and seniors
will spend the weekend at McMurry
to experience campus life first hand.
Numerous activities have been
planned beginning with registra-
tion and checking into rcsidenccholls
from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday Jan.
27 in the United Methodist Campus
Center. Special entertainment will
be held from 8 to 9 p.m. and an
optional dance will begin at 9.
Other events for the weekend
include attending classes visiting
with members of the faculty and
administration touring the campus
taking part in band choir and theater
auditions and participating in spe-
cial entertainment activities.
Housing in residence halls will be
provided Friday and Saturday nights
for prospective students. Cost for
the weekend is $10 which includes
all meals and housing.

New computer added

The Jay-Rollins Library recently
has acquired anew IBM compatible
computer with a color monitor
bringing the number of computers
available for student use to three.
The new computer is located on
the cast side of the library near the
reference desk. The other two com-
puters arc located in the west end of
the library in the typewriter room.
There is a $25 fee for students
who wish to use these computers.

getting facelift
Lynn Haggard circulation and ref-
erence librarian said all money paid
to this fund is reinvested in the
computers. The fee is good for one
calendar year and is to be paid at the
circulation desk. It is separate from
all computer lab fees. For students
who would like to try the new com-
puter but who arc not sure if they
want to pay the fee there will be a
free trial period Feb. l-15.Currcntly
about 30 students have paid to use
the computers.

$50000 was donated to
McMurry for trees landscaping and
general campus bcautification by a
donor who wishes to remain anony-
mous. The donor specified that he
wanted the money to buy large nice
trees for the campus Mr. Will Due
Director of Physical Properties has
already purchased several trees from
Bronte Texas and many have been
planted around campus.
New game tables and choirs
have been purchased for the
gamcroom in the campus center with
money from the donation.
Oilier possible projects funded
by the donated money arc flower-
beds a sprinkler system and match-
ing paint for the Cooke building.
Oilier campus improvements
not related to the donated money ore
the installation of new tile in the
Mabcc Room of the Campus Center
and the donation of many games to
go along with the newly purchased
gome tables by a local women's
club.
Abo Texas Instruments has
given McMurry a computer with
eight terminals and two printers. The
computer will be forstudentusc and
will be set up in room 104 of the
Campus Center.

Some software and hardware is
available for student use including
two printers located in the typing
room. The new computer eventu-
ally will be moved into the typing
room so that students can use one of
the printers with it. The software
includes Wordstar and P-C Write.
A graphics program and a mouse are
on order.
Ms. Haggard said plans are to
order cards that will enable the
computers to be Apple compatible.
