ANNUAL STAFF

The Annual Staff is getting under
way with the production and selling
of annuals.
The first deadline to turn in the
beginning 16 pages of the annual is
Nov. 1.
The annuals will be sold in the lat-
ter half of November. The down pay-
ment will be $10. The total cost of the
annuals is $20.
Senior pictures taken at the lake
are being sold at this time for $16.
The staff consists of co-editors
Deliala Hernandez and Linda
Gutierrez, assistant editor Connie
Gutierrez, business manager
Michelle Smith, assistant managers
Joy Merritt and Belia Trevino,
photographer Delia Medrano, assis-
tant photographer Juan Soto and co-

THE HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL

The Mathis High School and
Junior High bands have been proud
to bring you the Halloween carnival.
This year’s festivities are as special
and as much fun as last year’s.
The games this year will include
the ring toss, balloons, fish pond,
cake walk, bingo, and many more.
The famous haunted house, many
concession stands and a bake sale
are continuous activities at the car-
nival.
Come enjoy hard working band
students and volunteer parents at
this year’s carnival, Oct. 29, at the
Weber campus.
SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS

The sophomore class elected their
class officers for the 1988-89 school
year during the first six weeks.
Sophomore class president, as
chosen by his fellow classmates, is
Frank Rey Gonzales.
The other officers elected to repre-
sent the sophomore class are vice-
president Stacy Bruno, treasurer
Mitch Shedd and secretary Leo
DeForest.
Elections were held in the
sophomore English classes and the
ballots were counted by a Student
Council committee.

Fire Department agreed to in-
vestigate the possibility of setting up
a toy repair shop for the purpose of
repairing toys to be given to under-
privileged children at Christmas.
J.M. Edmondson celebrated his
11th birthday with children from the

given by his mother, Mrs. J.M. Ed-

The Chamber of Commerce Retail
Merchants Committee voted to
spend $300 of the Chamber’s money
on downtown Christmas decorations
this year.
The annual Halloween Carnival,
sponsored by the Band Boosters, is
scheduled for Friday, Oct. 17, and
promises an evening of wide and
varied entertainment for all ages.
Sunday’s feature at the Mathis
Drive-In will be “Attilla,” starring
Anthony Quinn and Sophia Loren.
Army Spec. Russell Gordon has
participated in the NATO-sponsored
exercise, Return of Forces to Ger-
many ‘88.
The exercise was designed to
evaluate plans and support
agreements between NATO member
nations, to exercise West Germany’s
ability to support deploying forces
and to test the ability of European-
based units to quickly link reinforc-
ing units with their pre-positioned
equipment.
He is an armor crewmember with
the 70th Armor Battalion in West
Germany.
Gordon is the son of Russel M.
Gordon of Mathis. His wife, Colleen,
is the daughter of Laurence and
Nancy Dunn, also of Mathis.

The sale of alcoholic beverages for

ly defeated by a 2-1 margin in last
Saturday’s election. Of the 873 votes
casts, 582 were against the proposal.
It was the third time this decade the
measure had been on the ballots. It
was also defeated in 1960 and 1962.
