hot oven for SO minutes. Reduce
heat and remove cover. Bake In a
slow oven for one hour, basting fre-

utes. Then prick well and cook In
frying pan without water for 30
minutes longer, turning frequently
to brown on all sides. In the mean-
time make a syrup of vinegar, sugar
and cinnamon. Pare apples and
cut In shoes about one-half inch
thick across the apple. Remove
cores and drop into boiling syrup.
Simmer until clear. Remove from
syrup and rail in cracker crumbs
Brown quickly in bet sausage fat
and serve as a border around
