Lagarto 4-H Adopts
Highway For Clean-up
LAGARTO...The Lagarto 4-H Club
has become the first organization in
the Jim Wells-Live Oak County area
to adopt a section of state highway
for beautification purposes under
the State Department of Highways1
and Public Transportation’s “Adopt
a Highway” program.
The two mile section of FM 534
from the north intersection with FM
3162, south has been adopted by the
organization for a one year period.
The program centers on communi-
ty interest and involvement in
beautifying area roadways leading
in to local communities and was
begun to help reduce costs to tax-
payers for cleaning trash from the
road.
The Lagarto 4-H Club will make
their first litter collection beginning
at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 28. Diane
Bryan, chairman of the activity for
the group, said this collection will be
the first of at least four that the
organization will make this year.
In addition to the benefits of col-
lecting the litter, the department an-
ticipates that the program will
create public awareness by making
the adopted section an example of
what can be accomplished by a con-
centrated litter prevention effort.
