After a 47-year absence
baseball will be returning to
McMurry. The excitement
continued after it was an-
nounced thatLeeDriggersthe
head coach at Abilene Cooper
High School
Driggers has alsocoachedat
Alief Hastings Houston
Willowridge and Brenham
Abilene Cooper. His 1986 and
1987 Brenham teams won the
Texas state championship and
in 1993 his Cooper team was in
the 5A state finalist. He was an
assistant coach with the
Carrolton Turner High School
team that participated in the
1979 5A state tournament.
In 1987 Driggers began the
baseball program at Tarleton
State University and he
coached at Hardin-Simmons
from 1988-90. He then moved
ontotakeseveralminorleague
positions. He was with the
Pittsburg Pirates organization
at Augusta Georgia in the
South Atlantic League and
Welland Ontario in the New
York-Penn League before tak-
ing the head coaching position
at Abilene Cooper in 1992.
Driggers was also assistant
baseball coach and assistant
athletic directoratGeorgetown
College inKentucky from 1979-
81. Other coaching selections
announced are those of
Tommy Estes and Sam
Nichols both graduates of
McMurry. Estes who coached
golf and assisted in football
and basketball at McMurry
from 1970-1981 is rehiring to
coach the men's and women's
golf teams.
Estes will be taking over the
program from Coach Hershel

is 150-72. He has led teams to
13 state playoff appearances

pionship while at Slaton.

new athletic director.

regional golf championship.
