FRED LONG ATTENDS
STATE CONVENTION
Mr. Fred Long, Mathis band di-
rector, attended the Texas Musi-
cal Educators’ Association’s State
Convention at Mineral Weds Feb-
ruary 8 through 11.
Clinicians were Dr. Frank Si-
mon who played in John Philip
Sousa’s band as first chair solo
cornetist for several years, and
Mr. Henry Fillmore, prominent
composer who is given credit for
composing more marches than
any other one composer.
These clinicians played music
to be used by bands in the state
contest, thereby giving band di-
rectors a better idea of how the
