Support Level -
Is Announced
On January 8, secretary of
Agriculture Orville L. Freeman
announced the minimum na-
tional average support price for
1042 crop peanuts at $221 per
ton. This Is the same as the 1041
support price. The announced
support reflects 85% of the
January, 1042 peanut parity
price of $280 per ton.
The above Information was
telephoned to the office of
Southwestern Peanut Growers'
Association from the Depart-
ment of Agriculture In Wash-
ington on last Tuesday.
Association officials worked
diligently In 1041 for the $20 per
ton Increase in support levels
They had again this year re-
peatedly expressed the hope
that It would not be necessary
to decrease price support levels
due growers on 1042 crop pea-
nuts.
The announcement by the
Secretary that the 1042 support
level would not be lowered Is
therefore heralded by Associa-
tion officials and Is expected to
result In extreme satisfaction
when received by growers over
the Southwest area.
Through continuation of the
relatively high support level on
peanuts, major producing coun-
ties In the Southwest will be
aided tremendously In main-
taining a desirable level of
economy.

ton as announced Is the mlnl-
