Indians' season finale McMurry ended
the season wmless in 10 tries though
they came close in several games This
one was not one of them however as
the Crusaders scored the first seven
times they touched the ball on the way

University swim team made quick
work of Austin College in a dual meet
Saturday morning The McMurry men
defeated AC. 163-30 while the
McMurry women won their meet 128-
69. The McMurry swimmers won all
but two event during the meet sweep-
ing the men's events The McMurry
men won all their relay races and then
got individual event wins from Casey

one relay event and then got individual

Season Opening Weekend

Lady Indians got the 2002-01 season
off to a blazing start with back-to back
home wins this weekend McMurry
opened the season I riday with a 91-76
pounding ol Southwestern Assemblies
of God University (3-2) then followed
that up Saturday with a 95-77 win over
UT-Permian Basin (0-5) Sophomore
Melissa Torth had the big weekend
scoring 55 points in two games hitting
an amazing 640 (16-25) from the field
and 19 of 20 free throws Her perform-
ance overshadowed an impressive
debut by freshman Sonya West who
scored 41 points and pulled in 16
rebounds in two nights of work Senior
Corissa Thompson got the season olf to
a big start defensively with 16
rebounds and 1 1 blocked shots The
Lady Indians (2-0) play a Wednesday
night game at Trinity University before
travelling next weekend to meet Austin
College

closed out a successful seventh season

Regional hosted by Mary Washington
College in I redericksburg VA
The men finished 12th overall in the
23 team field just behind rival Trinity
University Irom San Antonio The
women placed 15th in the 26 team
field ahead of ASC counterpart
Mississippi and just behind conlerence
champion Texas Lutheran
The harriers lelt for Washington
D C . three days before the race to
give everyone enough time to recover
Irom traveling all day Once they
arrived at Ronald Reagan Airport it
was oil to see the sights and hear the
sounds of Washington D C Runners

Vietnam Wall Memorial the Korean
War Memorial the Wlutehouse Ihe
Capitol ol the United States and the

down to business I he team headed
over lo old town I redericksburg to see

race was held at John Pratt Memorial
park just outside of downtown

race ended up being very messy and
cold It rained I riday night causing
the course to become slippery and the

Riedel finished out their collegiate
careers with less than satisfy mg

behind m 46th place with a time of

finished 9th at the regional meet two
years ago as a junior and Riedel fin-
ished 10th last season despite running
20 seconds slower

the Lady Indians' leading scorer from
last season's 15-9 squad senior

season averaging 14 8 points and 6 4
rebounds She also blocked 57 shots m
21 games (4th best in the nation
among Division III players) and was
one ol the team's best three-point

in this season planning to concentrate
on shutting down Corissa" Nichols
says But we'll have some other
weapons"

developing into a quality collegiate

The Lady Indians also have experi-
ence at point guard where sopho-
mores Tracie Robbins (8 4 ppg) and
Melissa rorth (5.1 ppg) are back for
