McMurry WAR WHOOP April 10 1987
POUTlCAJ. FOOTBAU.
Letters to the Editor
Do ynu know what SENIORITIS is? No it isn't a Spanish
word. Look at it again. It's a condition that a graduating
Senior has. Different things happen and it usually occurs
right after spring break. Energy level is low; heshe may stare
into space a lot and seem incoherent; obligations arc hard to
meet and on and on. There is only one known cure for th Is
condition. It's called GRADUATION. That seems to fix the
students right up.
On a more serious note: I'm a senior (yes I do have
SENIORITIS). In a few short weeks if I survive I'll have the
cure. For f years now I've been trodding along...blcndlng
several worlds into one: college life; homelife; churchlife;
work life; my 2 tecnaged daughters' school life; and of course
wife life. I'll tell you folks..."IT AINT UEEN EASY" and at
times I would start to throw in the towel but God would
push me a little bit harder and say "You 41AN and You
WlLL"...What can you say when the message comes from the
boss of the world?
So I kept on and attended classes read more than a million
books did research papers and reports took thousands of
tests and completed hundreds of projects. At one time as the
result of a degree requirement I attended classes on 3
different campuses. Hut there is hope and I'm going to make
it. "It's always darkest before the dawn" and it's been pretty
dark at times.
As I tell people about graduation I say "I can't wait I can't
wait". Then a bit of nostalgia sweeps over me and I know that
McMurry will no longer he the biggest part of my life it has
been. I look across the campus and see some of the friends
I've made like Susan Martha Jeannie and Jeanne David and
brad and John and on and on. So many it would he hard to
name them all. I see the McMurry employees that have
helped me so much and who I appreciate like Ines Gloria
Marion and Johnnie. I then see the professors who have
become close and whom I deeply respect like Dr. Meier my
advisor Johnnie Kahl Mr. Suter Kitty Ilenson Dr. Harrick
and the rest I could probably fill up the page with names.
I realize that when I leave here there will be more to

take advantage of any future opportunities to do so and we

Spring Tiling is almost over but we still have some events
left. Tonight at 8 p.m. our scavenger hunt begins from
Radford. Eighty dollars will be awarded to the team that can

Hopefully we can all have fun testing our wits. Prizes will

sixth and eighth clues.
Tomorrow we have swimming at the YMCA from 3 to 6

(Editor's Note: Staff Writer David Mareclc delved into
1957 editions of the War Wljoop in order to bring you
some of the top stories tidbits and other pieces of
nostalgia from 30 years ago. Follouing Is one In a
series of features which tvtll be published In each
edition of the War Wljoop this semester.)
It would appear through research of our files that the
clubs of McMurry the Christian aspects of the school and the
social life were just as Important in 1957 as they are now.
Here are some examples taken from the March 28 and April
4 Issues of 77jc War Vtljoop
The band was active as members were preparing to leave
for yet another tour. Tills one was to be In West Texas and
New Mexico with stops to give concerts In various cities
along the way
TIP crowned Bobby Hayworth as the club's sweetheart
during the annual sweetheart banquet. Kappa Phi also held a
banquet with the theme of "Rhapsody In Blue".
The Chanters set the date for their "German Requiem" by
Brahms for April 7.
Focus Week was set for April 8 through 1 1 . It was a time
for students to focus In on Christianity. There were lectures
and music scheduled throughout the week.
Nothing to do? Go bowling in Radford. Tills was featured
on the sports page as a "rainy day sport" and as something
which might uplift one's spirits.
The 1958 cheerleaders were announced on April II.
There were six cheerleaders most of them guys.
Class presidents also were announced. Danny Solomon
Bynum Miers and Robert Adams were elected to be senior
Junior and sophomore class presidents respectively.
Tills was evidently the week for parties. Alpha Phi Alpha
Ko Sari and Delta Beta Epsilon held parties of different
h .themes that week.
Alpha Phi's theme was "Bells to Remember". Delta Beta's
was "Ebb Tide" while Ko Sari held a picnic at Lake
Brownwood.
We have run out of those nifty little definitions but we
found some original poetry from a '57 laureate:
I'm writing home for money;
To have some would be nice.
I usually have plenty but
I've lost my pair o'dice
