Mrs. Luckenbach
Honored With
Surprise Dinner
Mrs. A. A. Luckenbach was
honored with a surprise bir-
thday dinner in her home
Sunday, with her children and
other relatives as hosts for the
covered-dish meal.
A birthday cake with the
traditional candles was
prepared by her nephew’s wife,
Mrs. Royce Reed. Her sons,
Albert Jr. and Joe, and their
wives and her daughters, Mrs.
Jack Humphries and Mrs. Bill
Sheppard, provided meat
dishes with fish, barbecue and
beef stew included. All the
ladies supplied the “fixings”
that filled in between the meat
course and the dessert.
Her daughter, Mrs. Hum-
phries, who is a teacher of a
nature study group in Corpus
Christi, brought along the
colored slides that she and her
husband had made of the Big
Bend birds, fauna and flora on
their recent vacation trip and
entertained the group with a
showing of the slides. Mrs.
Humphries is an interesting
narrator and held the group
spellbound with her narration.
It took five puffs for Mrs.
Luckenbach to blow out the
candles on her birthday cake,
which was an amusing feature
of the day for some of the
second and third generation
guests present who were “just
itching” to assist in the candle-
blowing.
A very enjoyable feature for
the honoree was the avid in-
terest her 10-month old great-
grandson, Darrell Henderson,
took in the opening of the gifts.
He not only wanted to untie the
bows, but to have the gifts after
they were opened.
Those attending were the
honoree, Mrs. Luckenbach,
and Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Luckenbach Jr., and family,
Carla, Linda and Albert III;
her son, Joe Luckenbach and
family, Mr. and Mrs. James
Henderson and Darrell,
Tommy Ball, Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Humphries, Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Sheppard and family and
Mr. and Mrs. Royce Reed.

derside of her eyelid where a

Thornton Jr., broke a bone in

home early last week.

ficulty in wearing a cast on the
arm.
Miss Mancias
Home From
California
Miss Alejandra Mancias has
returned from a visit with her
sister, Mrs. Malcolm Matthews
and family in Lemon Grove,
Calif.
She brought home for her
parents some fix preserves
which she had her sister had
made while she was there.
Miss Mancias was amazed at
the many varieties of fruit
which grow in her sister’s yard
and adjacent yards. The
vegetable gardens are also
eye-catchers, said Miss
Mancias.
But the most interesting
feature of her visit was making
the acquaintance of her new
nephew, Travis Daniel Mat-
thews, who made his arrival
July 7.
Tea Fetes
Mrs. Tewes
Mrs. Fred Tewes was
honored with a farewell tea
given in the home of Mrs. A. H.
Voss Tuesday afternoon.

as a centerpiece for the service
table. Cookies, punch and
coffee were served to about 30
guests. Amonth the out-of-town
guests were the honoree’s
daughter, Mrs. Tom Mehrens,
of Corpus Christi and Mrs. N.
C. Coe of Sinton. Guests in-
cluded the women from the
First United Methodist Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Tewes are
leaving Thursday to again
make their home in Corpus
Christi. They had come here
almost six years ago to be with
her father, the late E. H.
Jackson, during his lengthy
illness.
