ROTC won 2015 Spring Fling
Chili Champion with their Ja-
maican Jerk Chili at the first ever
Spring Fling Chili Cook-off spon-
sored by the Athletics department.
Over 500 people turned out to
the event, on Feb. 10 at Flex Field,
that supported the Make-A-Wish
Foundation.
Participants tasted and judged
33 different chilies made by various

The center is not necessarily
intended for seminarian purpos-

morial Scholarship Fund will host
the 5th Royal Classic 3-on-3 Bas-
ketball Tournament, sponsored by
the Alpha Phi sorority, March 22
in the A.A.C.C.

and various games like ladder ball,
corn hole and kickball at the event.
Brian Martinek, Associate Athlet-
ics Director, was thrilled to see the
Athletic department’s hard work pay
off.
“We were thrilled to see so many
people out there,” Martinek said.
“It was a perfect opportunity for
students, faculty and staff to inter-
act outside of the classroom and
office setting.”

The Melissa Villalpando Me-
morial Scholarship Fund was
founded in 2009 in memory of
Melissa Villalpando.
Villalpando was especially dedicat-
ed to the success of Catholic schools
won the
Showmanship Award for best booth
set-up, theme, costume, action and
audience appeal.
The NCAA Division II has a
long-standing relationship with the
Make-A-Wish Foundation.
With the money raised from the
Spring Fling Chili Cook-off along with
money raised from their Make-A-
Wish donation jugs, the Athletics
department will make their donation
through the Heartland Conference at
the end of the year.
The Alumni Association is en-
couraging more alumni to donate by
matching all donations dollar for dol-
lar, up to a $1 million to help bring the
Center for Catholic Leadership into
fruition.
“The hope is that alumni realize
that even small gifts help,” Longoria
said.
This comes after reluctance by
alumni to donate who feel that they
cannot donate large sums of money to
the University.

Catholic, high-school juniors who fol-
low Villalpando’s example in commu-
nity service, church, and school.
Villalpando passed away at age 39.
