Again we are called upon to chronicle
one of those dastardly deeds ot infamy
and crime that once and a while occur to
the horror and dismay ot all honest and
law-abiding men. Last night about eight
o’clock, Mr. B. J. Craves, an elderly
gentleman, who for some time past
lias been residing in the town ot Glen
Rose, Somervell county, was attacked
near Manuel’s old warehouse, near the
railroad, knocked down and robbed ot six-
teen dollars, money which had been col-
lected and given liim to defray his ex
penses home. The police were notified,
and soon Officers Burton anti Neely were
on the trail, and succeeded in capturing
George Barnes, a butcher ot this city, and
Sebe McKinney, who had accompanied
the old gentleman to this city from Glen
Rose, on suspicion of being tbe guilty par-
ties. They were taken before Mr. Craves
and he identified them as the parties who
had robbed liim, and they were taken to
the calaboose to await the action of the
grand jury. The money, less a few cents,
was found on their persons, when arrest-
ed, they having divided it between them.
The pocket-book was not found, and it is
supposed they threw it away or destroyed
it. This thing of robbery, burglary, and
kindred crimes, is becoming too frequent
in our city, and the culprits, when caught,
6hould be punished to the utter extreme
of the law, as we hope these villains will
be
War of Words.
Two rural roosters who had imbibed
just a drop too much of the ardent, and
one of whom was alone remarkable for
the extreme length of his auburn hair,
concluded to agree to disagree about some
trivial money transaction between them,
on West Weatherford street, yesterday,
and inqulged in some language, throwing
very disagreerble epithets at each other.
But they had an eye to business, all the
same, and were not so boisterous as to ex-
cite the attention of any peeler that may
have been lurking in the vicinity, and af-
ter all their harsh words mutually con-
cluded that the better policy would be t*
preserve tbe peace, and not institute a
miniature war, as at one time suggested
by their remarks. That is right, boys; for
if there is any one thing in this world to
beat a hot smoothing iron or a kicking
mule, it is an unruly tongue.

wholesome beverage will not be on tap
to-morrow, but simply because we know
most of our beer drinking people will
need a refreshing draught during the day,
