Out Of The Past
From The Files of
THE ODFM-EDROY TIMES
......aside from the fact that it is an
annual affair, one which doesn’t get
near the publicity and support it
should, Saturday, Oct. 15, is the date
for an evejit we’ve enjoyed for
years. And we’re looking forward to
it again. If you like band music. If
you like to see youngsters putting on
a real show take time Saturday to
the UIL District XTV marching band
contest at Tuloso-Midway stadium.
There’ll be bands from a lot of
schools, in all classes, participating,
and they really put on a show.
There’s color. And there’s music.
More than that, there’s a lot of kids
who have really worked for this
show....doing their best for their
school, and their community. These
are the same kids who put on the
halftime shows at football games.
The same kids who put in many
hours practicing, much of it on their
own time (extra-curricular in the
true sense). In our book, it’s enter-
tainment at its best. If you’ve never
taken in one of these contests, you’ve
missed something. So, if you like
band music, color, and kids giving
their best, try to make Saturday’s
contest. We think you will enjoy it.

......from our mailbag: Happiness
is a peculiar sensation you get when
you’re to busy too be miserable.
-gfr-
......if you watch TV very much,
you certainly have seen, at one time
or another, some million-dollar pro-
fessional athlete being interviewed.
We watched one the other night.
Seems the latest phrase is “You
know”. We counted. It was a short
interview, but those two words were
used a total of 18 times, in about two
minutes of speech. Watch enough of
those interviews and surely, you’ll
know. What?
-gfr-
......Duke Ellington, one of our
favorite pianists, musician, com-
poser (of our years) had this to say:
“Every man prays in his own
language, and there is no language
that God does not understand”. And
we thought the Duke was just a
musician.
-gfr-
......more mail: This year, more
and more people are experiencing
the American Dream because the
candidates are putting them to
sleep.

......and this one we really like.
Television is often just bubble gum
for the mind.
-gfr-
......just a thought. One nice thing
about the horse was that some
designer couldn’t make yours ob-
solete long before it was paid for.
-gfr-
......and there’s a guy who has the
answer to highway traffic conges-
tion problems. He says it should be
illegal for any motor vehicle to be on
the highways before it was com-
pletely paid for.

soar, how bravely he beseeches! I’ll
gladly cast my ballot for whoever
writes his speeches. (Wall Street
