Bechtel,
Exxon in
contract
HOUSTON — The Basic
Chemicals Group at Exxon
Chemical Americas’ Baytown
Chemical Plant has established a
long-term contract with Bechtel
Corp., Houston.
Bechtel will provide engi-
neering, procurement, and con-
struction for the Basic Chemi-
cals Group’s current manufac-
turing projects and future
building programs. This first
contract is a four-year
agreement.
“Long-term contracts of this
nature Slow us a much closer
association than the usual client-
engineer relationship where a
company hires an engineering/
construction firm to work on a
single project. Instead, the two
companies work with each
other, continuously improving
operations as work progresses,”
said Stu Tholan, senior vice
president and manager of Bech-
tel’s Houston regional Office.
The Basic Chemicals Group
at die Baytown Chemical Plant
produces a variety of aromatics
and olefins products.
Bechtel Corp. is a major inter-
national engineering, construc-
tion, and management organiza-
tion serving a range of. business
lines such as environmental,
power, and civil. Houston is
worldwide headquarters for
Bechtel’s chemical and petro-
leum operations.
Shipley’s backs
tight against
leukemia
The Leukemia Society of
America, started the year with
$25,000 more in the coffer
thanks to fund raising efforts by
Shipley’s Donuts and response
by Shipley’s customers.
For a $1 donation, customers
received a coupon book for $20
worth of Shipley’s Donuts. Pro-
ceeds went to the Leukemia
Society, which depends solely
on charitable contributions from
private organizations.
Live remote radio broadcasts
from Shipley’s shops throughout
the Houston area aided the fund:
raising project.
For more than 55 years, Ship-
ley’s has targeted youth and
education in its fund raising ef-
forts. Lawrence Shipley Sr,
founder of Shipley’s Donuts, re-
cently presented the $25,000
check to Sarah Ridley, assistant
executive director for the
Leukemia Society’s Texas Gulf
Coast chapter.
