‘Dealing with Death’ to be
Schlachtenhaufen’s topic
Preaching at St. Paul’s Luthe-
ran Church will be the Rev. Ed
Schlachtcnhaufcn. The sermon
title will be “Dealing With
Death." Special music includes
a duct, “A Song of Baptism,”
sung by Becky Johnston and
Ann Hodge in honor of the bapt-
ism of Christine Johnston. As-
sisting minister will be Deborah
Hewer. Greeter is Joan
Hiteshcw and ushers are Joe,
Linda and Robert Cacciotti and
Nolan Barth.
A group will travel to the Na-
tional Youth Convention in Dal-
las next week. The WELCA
board meets at 7 p.m. Monday
and the quilters at 8 a.m. Thurs-
day. The CSL is taking a sum-
mer vacation.

Redeemer Lutheran Church
begins worship with communion
at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. The Rev.
Walt Halting will be the guest
preacher this Sunday. The youth
will be taking part in serving

Silent auction,
barbecue meal
to be held
The members and friends of
Highlands United Methodist
Church have pitched in to do-
nate a variety of items for Satur-
day’s silent auction at the
church’s annual benefit
barbecue.
Silent auction co-chairman
Holly Bullock reported that the
items range from handmade clo-
thing for all ages, afghans, wall
plaques, flower arrangements,
booster cables, country wood
cut-outs, “tater” bin, fishing rod
and various services.
Co-chairman Nicki Hirt adds
to the list, ‘Tongues of Fire”
salsa, holiday yard signs, a “wo-
men’s survival basket” a “42”
domino party and a formal gour-
met dinner for six at a private
home, complete with waters and
music.
Bidding will go on continu-
ously by writing bids as many
times as you want for that de-
sired item, between 11 a.m. and
2 p.m.
At 2 p.m., winning bids will
be determined and items can be
picked up between 2 and 3 p.m.,
closing time.
Besides the silent auction, a
bake sate and barbecue dinner
will be going on, with entertain-
ment provided by the Bayou
Banjo Band.
Barbecue dinner tickets are $7
for adults and $3 for children.
Highlands United Methodist
Church is at 107 West Houston
Street between Main Street and
Magnolia Avenue.
All proceeds from tfiis event
will go for missions outside of
the local church.
