Have
Baby Girl
Sgt. and Mrs. Jack Parker of
Wichita, Kansas proudly an-
nounce the birth of their first
child, a daughter, Jennifer
Rebecca born Aug. 23.
She weighed nine pounds and
six ounces at birth.
Her paternal grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Parker of Odem and the
maternal grandparents are
Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Glass of
Beaumont, formerly of Odem.
O'Canases Repeat
Marriage Vows
Mr. and Mrs. Jose O’Canas
repeated their marriage vows
in a special ceremony at
Sacred Heart Church Sunday
in observance of their Silver
Wedding anniversary.
Witnesses for the ceremony
were their daughter, Miss
Janie O’Canas and their son
and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Joe
O’Canas and another son, Abel
O’Canas.
Special guests were Mrs.
Eloisa Bocanegra, Lydia
Pizana, Mr. and Mrs. Dionicio
Lopez, Mr. and Mrs. Ruben
Pizana, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Chapa, Mrs. Terry Miller, Mr.
and Mrs. Juan O’Canas and
Mr. and Mrs. Juan Pizana.
Mrs. O’Canas wore a pink
dress highlighted by a corsage
of roses tied with silver rob-
bon. Her shoes and other ac-
cessories were also silver.
In the exchange of rings Mr.
O’Canas accepted a silver
wedding band and Mrs.
O’Canas received a diamond
engagement ring to go
with the weddinb band she had
worn for 25 years.
A reception was held in at
Shelton Elementary
Cafetorium following the
ceremony and Mass read by
the Rev. John Zymela.
The centerpiece for the table
where Mr. and Mrs. O’Canas
were seated was a silver tree
holding 25 silver dollars. The

table was laid with a lace cloth.
The white wedding cake was
appropriately decorated with
silver wedding bells.
Approximately 60 guests
attended the reception.
Bar B Q Honors
Mrs. Barber
Mrs. Hollis Barber was
honored on her 74th birthday
with a barbecue supper hosted
by her grandchildren, Jeanie,
Jan, Jo Lynn and David
Barber, Saturday afternoon.
The carport at Mrs. Barber’s
home was decorated with
balloons and other festival
decorations for the occasion,
and the honoree was truly
surprised by the courtesy by
her grandchildren.
Those attending the bar-
becue which was topped off
with icecream and a birthday
cake were the honoree, Mrs.
Barber, Mr. and Mrs. Ted
Dozier of Houston, Mrs. G. H.
Barber, Mrs. Gene Freeman
and the hosts, Jeanie, Jan, Jo
Lynn and David.
Mrs. Lou Visnson of Jackson,
Miss., is here for a visit with
her sister, Mrs. Johnnie Coats.
Mrs. Gladys Rogers was in
Crockett with Mrs. Leona
Dunn’s family during the last
days of Mrs. Dunn’s life. She
had visitedher ofter during her
illness. The women were
duplex neighbors in one of the
school duplexes during the
Whites Visit
Marble Falls
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. White
were in Marble Falls during
the weekend to visit Mr. and
Mrs. George Raun, formerly of
Odem.
Dr. Jerry Raun of San
Angelo was also a guest in the
home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Raun.
The group made a tour of the
Lake Buchanan area and
Johnson Lake Sunday morning
before the Whites left for their
home in Odem.
Mr. and Mrs. White report
that George Raun is looking
and feeling well and he and his
wife are always glad to have
visits from their Odem friends.
Raun was critically ill for
several months soon after he
and his wife moved to Marble
Falls early this year, but he
has responded remarkable
well to treatments he has been
taking.
Dudley Bazar
Hosts Dinner
The Reverend and Mrs.
Dudley Bazar entertained with
a dinner party in their home
Wednesday Night, August 23.
The theme was informal and
guests were seated on the f loor
using different sized
decorated boxes as tables.
Guests were Anne Carey,
Doug Stevens, Rev. Bill Huth,
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Tower, Mr.
and Mrs. Ben Briscoe, all of
Corpus Christi, and Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth Stein, Mr. and
Mrs. Augustine Romero, and
Kathy Stein, all of Odem.
Charades and other games
were played.

Life Easy Living
In Virgin islands
Mrs. Marshall Roach, and
her son, Todd, came from St.
Croix, Virgin Islands, several
days ago to attend the wedding
of her brother Terry Smith
praises the easy-going way of
life in the Islands.
“No one ever gets in a hurry-
--not even the grocery clerks”,
said Mrs. Roach. It may be
tiring to s tand an hour in line at
the check-out counter in a
grocery store, but its a
relaxing experience not to be
subjected to the hustle and
bustle found in the super-
markets back in the states, she
commented.
Families from Robstown,
Corpus Christi and Louisiana
are neighbors of the Roach
family in St. Croix, and these
families find living in the
Mrs. Leon Mertz and Mrs.
Patricia Jamison accompanied
their son and brother, Jerry
Mertz, to Huntsville Thursday
where he enrolled at Sam
Houston University then the
family returned home Friday.
Mrs. Charles Freeman and
sons, Kevin and Keith ofAustin
visited her mother, Mrs. B. H.
Davis, and other relatives here
for several days.
Islands much like living “back
home”.
Mrs. Roach and Todd will
return to their home in St.
Croix after a visit here with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas
Smith, and her husband’s
relatives in this area.
Key Rings
Go On Sale
Mrs. James Rose and Mrs.
Jim Rheinlaender, wives of
two of the coaches in Odem
High School, have been busily
engaged making plywood key
rings as a fund-raising project
for the Quarterback Club.
Mrs. John Bownds has
assisted in the painting of the
key rings which are miniature
owls. They sell for $2 each and
can be obtained by contacting
Mrs. Doyle Curtiss. One of the
keyrings is on display in the
bank, where Mrs. Curtiss is
employed.
