We saw Anita Bess early this week and she was still exuberant
and a little more than mildly excited over her recent trip to Port
Arthur and Houston where she attended the beautiful wedding of
Madeline Washington of Port Arthur and Billy J. Banks of Nava-
sota...The ceremony Unking the pair was solemnized In Sacred
Heart Catholic church In the bride’s home town, with Father Timms
officiating... Madeline, many of you will recall, formerly resided
here and worked at a local hospital as a medical technician....
Other San Antonians attending the nuptials were Mrs. Ruth Ann
Roberts. Mrs. Lois Bell. Mrs. Douglass Campbell Clack and the
Misses Jean and Leona Campbell... After several days In Port
Arthur, Nlta returned to Houston as guest of the newlyweds in their
brand r.ew home lr. the Stonecrest apartments on 1 stenaUnk drive,
and shared several parties honoring the bridal pair, PLUS several
for her, given by old friends... Then, last week end, the Banks’,
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Broussard of Port Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry
Phillips of Houston and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bowie of Austin,
motored to San Antonio for the Isaac Hayes concert, and the good
times started all over again...

Mrs. Margaret M. Boyd has returned to her home In Portland,
Oregon after a very happy visit here with relatives and friends...
A former San Antonian, Mrs. Boyd Is a counselor In a Portland
High school and is the wife of the Rev. Eugene Boyd (also a Texan),
pastor of Providence Baptist church and a director of OIC, Inc.
....She was a guest In the home of a cousin, Mrs. Margarita Heard,
2126 Lamar street, and her aunt, Mrs. Annie Hawkins; and also
visited with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cloud, 331 Trail
street, and other relatives and friends ... When she left the other
day she was armed with a whole raft of happy memories, scads of
souvenirs and colorful Western outfits for her three chlldren--
Margarita, Prlncene and Mancin, which are sure to make them the
envy of all Portland. * * * Here, last week, attending the Southern
region of the National School Board association, was the very
charming and Ingratiating Mrs. Pauline (‘‘Polly") Maloney of
Lynchburg, Va.,...She was a guest at the Palaclo del Rio hotel,
headquarters for the conventioners, and told us she found her FIRST
visit to San Antonio to be a joyful experience... W’lth us, she was
a guest of the E.L. Turbons and Rowland J. Martin at the Courtiers’
wonderfully good-tlmlsh dance or. Friday night and had an oppor-
tunity to see a number of old friends, and make NEW ones.... A
member of the Virginia State School board, Polly Is also a past
national president of Links, Inc. She posses an unique feminine zest
and loves going places and doing things, and was excitedly look-
ing forward to the Links' upcoming national to be held In New
Orleans next week... ‘""Joining the Jet set In romantic Mexico
City and bee-yoo-ti-ful Acapulco for several days of splendor were
the Felton (Maggie) Nances, who, Just MAY be home by now telling
of their good times ** "Young Raymond W, King and family have
just returned from El Paso where the movie “The Getaway" In
which Raymond had a role, was completed... The lad was signed
up here for the initial sequences filmed arouna me 5? depwi...No
need to tell you It was a thrilling and exciting experience for him and
his proud family... Incidentally, you should SEE his scrapbook!

Lawton- Me Vea Nuptials
On Saturday evening, June 17, at 8 o’clock In the sanctuary of
the New Light Baptist church, Miss Audrle Lucille Me Vea became
the bride of William Means Lawton. Mr. and Mrs. Norris Louis
McVea, Sr., are the parents of the bride, and the groom’s parents
are Mr. and Mrs. Samuel H. Lawton, Sr., of Dayton, Ohio. Dr. P.S.
Wilkinson, Sr., officiated.
The altar was decorated with twin candelabrum entwined with

Into a sweeping chape! train.
A profile headpiece held her
floor length mantilla and blush-
er. The bridal bouquet was
fashioned of white sweetheart
roses and baby's breath, cen-
tered with a white orchid and
surrounded with tiny ribbons
studded with pearls.

Ciuu. Mrs. Thurman Is a sis-
ter of the groom. The matron
of honor and the bridesmaids
wore floor-length dresses of
multi-colored flowered organ-
za with high waistlines and tied
with pink ribbons and soft pink
brimmed hats. Rovena Barnes
and Janet Dotson served as jun-
ior bridesmaids, they wore
floor-length white organza
dresses tied with pink ribbons
and white accessories. All ex-
cept the matron of honor car-
ried bouquets of white roses
and fern. The matron of honor
carried a small bouquet of white
and pink rosebuds. Leroy
Shields served as rlngbearer.
Crystal Shields was the flower
girl and was dressed In the
same manner as the junior
bridesmaids.
Norris L. McVea, Jr., broth-
er of the bride, Freddie McCol-
lough, Harold Glenn Thompson,
Sherman A. Littlefield, Jr., and
Kelton Sams and Edward Lee,
both of Houston were grooms-
men, Joseph Waddy of Washing-
ton, D.C., and Steven Netherly
were ushers. Serving his twin
brother as best man was Sam-
uel H. Lawton, Jr., of Dayton,
Ohio. The processional was the
music theme from Love Story.
At the sound of the traditional
wedding march Miss McVea
came down the white-carpeted
aisle on the arm of her father.
Her dress was white organza
covered with white daisies; the
empire valstllne and the hem-
line emphasized a pink ribbon
inset. The floor-length double

small cap of white seed pearls.
She carried a white Bible and
a small cornucopia at pink and
white rosebuds. After the dou-
ble ring ceremony, the couple
knelt on a pink and white net
pillow for the blessing. Fol-
lowing this, the Lord’s Pray-
er was sung by the soloist.
The reception hall was beau-
tifully decorated with the
bride’s table dominating the
scene. Mrs. Laurlce Barnes
was In charge of the reception.
She was assisted by Mrs. Mat-
tie Brown and Mrs. Anna Rose
Shields who registered the
guests; Mrs. Artie Foxx and
Mrs. Maggie Marie Collier
served the bride’s cake; Mrs.
Freddie McCollough and Mrs.

Mrs. McVea, the bride’s
mother, wore a street-length
dress of aaua-colored t>eau de
sole with shoes of matching
color. The mother of the groom,
Mrs. Lawton, wore a street
length beaded ensemble of soft
yellow and peau de sole. Each
wore an orchid.

York; Mr. and Mrs. Means
Bowling of Greenville, S.C.; Mr.
Daniel McVea, Sr., of El Paso;

Floyd H. Jefferson was tne
musician for the wedding and
played throughout the recep-
tion hours. Strauther Sanders
was toastmaster and Miss Wil-
lie Mae Johns was the coordin-

Mrs. Lawton Is a 1072 grad-
uate of the University of Hous-
ton and Is employed by the
Houston Chronicle. The groom
Is a 1072 law school graduate
of Texas Southern university
having passed the bar examina-
tion In May of this year. At
the present time he manages
extensive re^l estate holdings.
Club Picnic
Delightful
Summer Fare
The Prince and Princess So-
cial and Civic club held its
third annual Family picnic at
Comanche Park No. 1 Satur-
day, June 17. More than 135
members of the club and their
families shared the gala occa-
sion, plans for which were made
by the social chairman, Mrs.
Mildred Young, Mrs. Mavis
Boston, co-chairman; Mrs.
Leotha Berry, treasurer, Mrs.
Emma Lee Jones, secretary,
Major Williams and Mrs. El-
nora Steward, committeemen.
A veritable feast was serv-
ed, the delectable barbecue hav-
ing been prepared by Major
Williams. Soft drinks for the
kiddles and a variety of iced
beverages were served
throughout the social hours.
Others, working to assure a
successful event, were the club
president; Mrs. Dorothy M.
Polk; vice president, Mrs.
Gladys White; Mrs. Clarence
M. Davis, Mrs. Naomla Fifer,

of past club activities highlight-
ed the evening. The films were

festive affair.

The Silhouette Social and Civ-
ic club held Its regular monthly
meeting on Wednesday evening
