Soliz And Haug Top Two
In Recent Business Meet

Fifteen Odem High School
students placed in the Business Pro-
fessionals of America Regional Con-
test Saturday in Calallen.
Edward Soliz received first place
in the computer specialist competi-
tion and Kevin Haug took second in
verbal communications. Both
students will compete in the state
contest in San Antonio March 8-10.
Third place winners who will be
alternates at state were Kevin
Malone in computer assistant;
Bryan Pope in employment skills
and Rachyll Dempsey in verbal
communications — ex-
temperaneous.
Also placing were Esther Castro,
fourth in information processing;
James Green, fourth in en-
trepreneur individual; Leslie
Adame, Chris Pina and Ruben
Villarreal, all fourth in computer-
aided graphics; Tavey Garcia,
fourth in document formating;
Keeton Lawson, fifth in legal docu-
ment application, Christine Garcia,
fifth in keyboarding; Erin
McGowan, fifth in chapter year-
book; Vimean Sok and Bryan Pope,
sixth in promotional display.
Robles In 5th At UIL

Carrie Robles, a senior at Odem
High School, received a 5th place
award in the Accounting contest at
the UIL Practice Meet at Gregory-
Portland High School Saturday.
In addition, Seniors Melani Smith
and Frances Doria each ranked in
the top ten, competing against 55
other students from 3A, 4A and 5A
schools.

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED - Carolyn Dearman of Odem and Jay
Dearman of Portland have announced the engagement and ap-
proaching marriage of their daughter, Becky Deli, to Tony Barerra,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Armando Perez of Uvalde. The wedding is being
planned for 5 p.m. Saturday, April 7 at the First Baptist Church in
Odem.
Six Odem Junior High students
were finalists in the second round of
the Scripps Howard National Spell-
ing Bee Feb. 1.
Those students, who will compete
in the final round today at 2:30 p.m.
in the Odem Junior High Library,
are Kevin Gallia, Vera Puga, Sally
Funderburg and Crissy Hunter, all
in sixth grade; and Rose Vaquero
and Chris Cabrera, both in eighth
grade.

To Sell Barbecue
The Full Gospel Mission of Odem
will sell chicken barbecue plates
with all the trimmings Saturday,"
Feb. 17 at Odem Park from 9 a.m.
until 3 p.m.
Plates are $3 each.

corn, jam square, cracker, milk.
LUNCH B: Pizza, salad, corn and
jam square, corn, milk.

Javier was bom Jan. 22, 1990 at
Spohn Hospital. He weighed 6
pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches
long.
He is welcomed home by his
brother, Leo P. Juarez III.

grandmother is Mrs. Maria Z.
Juarez of Robstown. Great-
grandmother is Mrs. Juanita O.

Local Church To
Have Installation
The Odem Sacred Heart Catholic
Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe
Mission will have an installation
ceremony Sunday, Feb. 18 at noon. A
covered dish dinner luncheon will
follow.
Members of the community are
welcome to attend.
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED - Mr. and Mrs. Benigno Martinez
were honored with a party on their 26th anniversary Saturday, Feb. 10
in Odem with Benny and Yolanda Martinez, David and Rosa Ruiz and
Maria Martinez as hosts. A dinner was served, followed by cake and
punch. Music was provided by Freddie Martinez, Y Su Conjunto of
Odem. More than 200 friends and relatives attended from Sinton, Taft,
Portland, Victoria and Corpus Christi. C
Historical Commission Plans
Dedication Ceremony Feb. 17
The San Patricio Historical Com-
mission will dedicate a historical
marker Saturday, Feb. 17 during a
ceremony commemorating the Ter-
minal Railroad for the part it played
in developing Aransas Pass and
South Texas.
The dedication will begin at 10
a.m. in the 200 block of Goodnight in
Aransas Pass (the road leading to
Port Aransas).
Keith Guthrie, chairman of the
Historical Commission, will open the
ceremony, followed by an invocation
given by Rev. Robert O. Watson,
pastor of the First Baptist Church of
Aransas Pass and the Pledge of
Allegiance.
Aransas Pass Mayor Bob Watson
will give a brief welcome and Dick
Hatch, Aransas Pass attorney, will
discuss briefly the history of the
railroads that helped in the develop-
ment of the area.
