Preceptor Gamma Chapter
Preceptor Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigrna Phi will hold Its
Christmas meeting Dec. 6 in the home of Alma White. Activities will
begin at 7 p.m. with a covered dish dinner. Afterwards there will be a
Christmas program. The members will then exchange secret sister
gifts. Other hostesses include Jo Beaty, Ilo Killian and Patsy
Wallace. J
For the service project, service chairman Sue Fellman has asked
chap^S ^ristmas gift items for the family adopted by the
At the Nov. 1 meeting, president Joann Kelley read the Ritual of
Jewels ceremony for fellowship member Sandy Aschehbrenner,
assisted by Mildred Lucas and Carolyn Lowe. Mrs. Aschenbrenner
received a pin and a yellow rose symbolizing the sorority^ motto,
“Life, Learning and Friendship.” '
Vice president Lowe reported on chapter progression.
Mrs. Kelley announced the sorority’s state project is the purchase
of children s dialysis equipment for the Texas Children’s Hospital in
Houston.
Jill Sanders, was appointed to serve on the BSP City Council 40th
Anniversary Tea Committee.
Canned good were brought for a Thanksgiving basket to be
delivered to the family adopted by the chapter.
Mrs. Sanders announced the-Valentine sweetheart dance is
scheduled for February 11.
Hostess for the meeting was Ida Griffith. She presented a program
on “Friendship.” “A friendship, she noted, is to be cherished and
cultivated.” We lose it when we take it for granted and neglect the lit-
tle, unremembered acts of kindness and love. We must remember
that to have a friend we must first be one. Friends must show
courtesy, kindness, consideration, sincerity, appreciation and
humility. Also, they must be worthy, be interested, be available, be
tolerant and be encouraging. Friendships bring strength where there
is sadness and courage where there is fear. She noted, in closing, that
friendships must be kept in constant repair.
Mrs. Kelley, Pat Foreman and Mrs. Wallace represented the
chapter at the Nov. 14 BSP City Council meeting.
For the November social, Ida and Martin Griffith hosted a
| Thanksgiving dinner in their home.
Baytown A&M Mothers' Club
The Christmas party for the Baytown A&M Mothers’ Club willbe
, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 in the home of Betty Rice. Assisting her with
hostess duties will be the Social Committee with members Jeanette
Hardin, chair, Ann Barrios, and Marie Duguay.
Each member will bring a dozen of her favorite cookies and a $10
gift for the gift exchange.
The cookbooks “Aggies, Moms, and Apple Pie” and fountain pens
will be available for purchase. Aggie T-shirts are on order. I
Mrs. Barrios, third vice president, will give a final report on the
club auction. Audrey Russell will report on delivering the “goodie

President Delores Ellis presided at the November 3 meeting and
announced the District meeting for the Federation of Texas A&M
Mothers’ Clubs is scheduled for Feb. 4 at St. Luke’s United Methodist
Church in Houston. Phyllis Pounds, Judy Abshier, and Gayle Perkins
will be in charge of registration and the invocation will be given by
Mrs. Ellis. Mrs. Barrios and Mrs. Rice will be responsible for four
door prizes.

Thursday Forum if*
Freda Chandler, president, presided over business at a recent lun-
cheon meeting of the Thursday Forum at the Goosfe Creek Country
Club with Suzi Powers and Mildred Adams as hostesses.
Mrs. Chandler appointed a committee to plan the Games Party to
| be held in February to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Members of that committee are Polly Beavers, chairman; Martha
Jane Huddle, Gloria Donnelly, and Anna Mae Johnston. They will
report back to the club at the December meeting.
A Thanksgiving program was given by Suzi Powers. She presented -
a very informative and innovative talk about the background for this
annual day when we give thanks. ' — ■
The next meeting will be held at the Houston Yacht Club Dec. 15 at
11:30 a.m. Kathryn Stephenson and Freda Chandler will be
hostesses.

The Lakewood Garden Club and the Civic Association are sponsor1
ing the-third annual “Light Up Lakewood” competition to be judged
on Dec. 14. Judging will be on both secular and religious themes. A
$25 prize will be awarded for first place. Second and third places will
also be recognized, as well as honorable mention. /
Furbee Duplicate Game
North-South winners for the Furbee Duplicate game for Nov. 26
were Betty Hartman and Oniece Alspaugh, first and Grace Irons and
Merline Jones, second.
East-West winners were Mary Pond and Helena Kimball, first and
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brending, second.
'39 Study Club
The ’39 Study Club will meet at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 7 in the home of Mar-
ceine Lanham. She will present the program on “China Revisited.”
President Joy Warford presided at the Nov. 16 meeting in the home
of Ora Lee Lyons.
Treasurer Ruth Colburn announced the club has made contribu-
tions to the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs’ scholarships in-
cluding Penny Art, Latin American, Musical Penny, and TFWC
State and to the Patti Sims and Peggy Coates, San Jacinto District
scholarships. Also the TFWC Endowment Fund, the TFWC
Historical Foundation, Girlstown, and the USA Education Fund.
The club will make a donation to the General Federation of
Women’s Clubs’ Centennial Fund which will help highlight GFWC's

in Crosby has just acquired Ver-
non’s Texas Statutes and Codes.
This 100 plus volume set allows
the public access to all the state
laws of Texas from the Election
and Family Codes to the land
and water laws. The set is refer-

that will celebrate the past and lay the foundation for a strong GFWC
future.
In lieu of exchanging Christmas gifts, the members voted to make
a contribution to Baytown Sheltering Arms. Plans were made for the
club to send a Christmas ^ift to Andrea Cox, the young lady at
Girlstown, who is sponsored by the club.
Gladys Stange, president of the San Jacinto District, TFWC, was
. the guest speaker. She said “The purpose of the TFWQ is to unite
women’s clubs throughout Texas for the promotion of activities in
thearea of conservation, education, home life, public affair’s, inter-
national affairs, the arts, and Texas heritage.”. Today there are
someiS.OOO members iri‘500 clubs in Texas. She reviewed some of the
activities of the TFWC including the proposed Office of Prevention
for mental health and drug abuse, the Hugh O’Brien leadership con-
ferences, and the Keep in Touch (KIT) program for elder abuse.
To honor Mrs. Stange,’ the club made a donation to the literacy pro-
gram at Sterling Municipal Library.
