Port "A" Fish And Game
Dinner Set February 24
Tickets are on sale now for
the 32nd Fish and Game Dinner at
the Port Aransas Chamber of
Commerce-Tourist Bureau.
The dinner is set for Saturday,
February 24, at the Civic Center
on Avenue A and Cut-off Road.
Cocktails from a cash bar and
complimentary hors d'oeuvres
will be served from 6 to 7 p.m.,
dinner will be served at 7 p.m.
The tradition of savoring
venison, javelina, shrimp, oysters
and every species of fish that
comes out of the Gulf and bays
was revived by last year by the
Tourist Bureau after an absence of
two years. It became a tradition of
the Lions Club in the early 1960's.
Dwindling membership in recent
years caused the Lions to turn the
event over to the Tourist Bureau.
Only 500 tickets will be sold in
advance through the Tourist
Bureau for $15 each. Tickets can
be mailed to those who send a
check for the number of tickets
desired and a self-addressed,
stamped envelope to the Tourist
Bureau at P.O. Box 356, Port
Aransas, Texas 78387. Tickets
will be held at the door of the
Civic Center for those sending
checks after February 17.
However buyers should call to
confirm availability of tickets
requested by mail after February
15.
Hor d'oeuvres of boiled
shrimp, raw oysters and more
will kick off the dinner. From
there, smoked venison and
javelina, cajun fried turkey,
deepfried fish of every
description, fried shrimp and
oysters as well as the usual side
dishes will be served.
Cash bars will dispense beer
and wine.
The Fish and Game Dinner has
drawn South Texans to Port
Aransas from Beeville, Goliad,
Refugio, Kingsville, Corpus
Christi, Rockport, Robstown, San
Antonio, Pleasanton, Aransas
pass, and all points in between.
It's not unusual to meet an old
friend from another city at the
Fish and Game Dinner. And, as
more and more folks have begun
spending their winters in Texas,
Winter Texans have also found the
Fish and Game Dinner a great
place to meet and enjoy a totally
Texas-make that Port Aransas,
Texas-dinner.
"We're looking forward to the
32nd Fish and Game Dinner, one
of the finest traditions of the
island," said Carl Moore,
chairman of the event and a
member of the Tourist Bureau's
board of directors.
For ticket or other information
about the dinner, contact the
Tourist Bureau at 749-5919 or 1-
800-452-6278.
