There is a $20 entry fee for the rattlesnake races and all contes-
tants must be at least 18 years of age. All other games are free of
charge and suited for all ages, games such as egg-catching, human
wheelbarrow races, sack hops, 3 legged races, Spiderman races, egg
& spoon races with prizes for winners in each event. Last year, over
$3,000 in prizes was handed out.
Live music is planned under the big tent from noon to 6 p.m.,
featuring Bushbullit.
Other activities will include helicopter rides, carnival rides, arts
& crafts booths, barbecue, turkey legs & sausage on a stick, funnel
cakes, fried rattlesnake, rattle-snake souvenirs and rattlesnake han-
dling exhibitions.
Daily admission to the grounds is $5 for adults, $4 for senior cit-
izens age 55 or older and for military with ID, $3 for children ages
6 to 12, and children under 6 are free.
The World Championship Rattlesnake Races are a production of
the San Patricio Restoration Society. Funds raised at the event are
used for the San Patricio Museum and for historical restoration of
Old San Patricio, which was founded in 1830, before Texas became
a republic.

Monday and the report indicated that 17
restaurants were cited with numerous violations
and warranted county officials to schedule a
mandatory follow-up inspection.
"These inspections are not in anyway done
to shut down businesses" said Roger Barker, San
Patricio Health Department Administrator.
"We are trying to educate restaurant owners
and assist them to comply with health code reg-
ulations," Barker said.According to the latest
report, the city of Portland had six restaurants
that required follow-up inspections.
Of the four resturants, Golden City, located
on 1016 A HWY 181, required three follow-up
inspections after the Chinese restaurant violated
food temperature regulations.Other Portland
restaurants that violated county health regula-
tions were La Iguana, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell,
Taqueria El Tapito, and Popeye's. In Sinton
three food establishments required mandatory
follow-ups.
Whataburger, located on 220 S. San Patricio,
violated a food temperature regulation as did
Flores Grocery.Uncle Sam's, located on 1225 E.
Sinton, also required a follow-up inspection.
Barker said that county health inspectors
cooking and temperature violations are the
most important part of the inspection.
According to the county health report, health
officials hand out five demerits for improper
temperatures on prepared or cooked food and
four personal and building hygenics.

Each violation requires Immediate Corrective Action, but the third category allows up to 10 days to correct the problem.
