Roman accepts membership
in international honor society
R. Javier Roman of Odem has
accepted membership in Golden
Key International Honour Society
and was individually honored
during a recent campus ceremo-
ny at the University of Texas at
San Antonio.
He is the son of Roberto and
Anna Roman.
Golden Key International
Honour society was founded
more than 25 years ago in
Atlanta, Georgia and provides
academic recognition to college
juniors and seniors in the top 15
percent of their class.
The mission of the global,
non-profit Society is to build com-
munities of academic achievers
by providing opportunities for
individual growth through leader-
ship, career development, net-
working and service.
The Society’s values are
integrity, inclusiveness and col-

White Christmas wedding
Elva Morin and Gilbert Garcia, Jr., both of Sinton, were mar-
ried as the snow fell on a rare White Christmas Eve, Dec. 24,
2004. Justice of the Peace Mauro Adame of Odem officiating
the ceremony at the home of the couple. Witness were Carlos
and Aurora Morin of Odem and Nina and Victor Soto of Sinton.
Relay for Life meetings set
There will be a Relay for Life
meeting for chairs and team cap-
tains at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan.
11, at the Back Street Cafe in
Sinton.
The annual American Cancer
Society’s Relay for Life Kickoff
will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan.
17, also at the Back Street.
Those interested in joining the
Relay for Life cause is invited to
attend the Kickoff.
Obituary
Roman D. Gonzalez
Roman D. Gonzalez, 58, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2004, in a Corpus
Christi hospital after a long illness.
He had been employed by the city of Odem for fifteen years and
had been a volunteer fireman. He had also been an employee of the
Calallen Baptist Church. His parents, Frank and Mary Gonzalez, pre-
ceded him in death.
A rosary was recited Tuesday at Ritchea Gonzales Funeral Home
Chapel. Funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5,
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Odem with Father Henry Hesse
as celebrant. Interment was in San Pedro Cemetery in Odem.
Mr. Gonzalez is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Gonzalez of
Sinton; one son, Roman Gonzalez, Jr. of Odem; two brothers, Frank
D.Gonzalez, Jr. of Sinton and Leo Gonzalez Christi; one sister,
Margaret Cantu of Sinton; three grandchildren,

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 340 OF THE CITY OF ODEM, TEXAS, BY AMENDING
SECTION I, A, B, C, AND D; THEREFORE BY INCREASING THE RATES FOR THE CITY OF ODEM,
TEXAS, PROVIDING FOR A REPEALER; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ODEM, TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
Section I, A., B., C., and D., of Ordinance No. 340 of the City of Odem, Texas,
are hereby amended to read as follows:
A. Residence Inside City:
Monthly rates
$17.92 for 3,000 gallons minimum rate
3.64 per thousand for the next 7,500 gallons
3.39 per thousand for the next 7,500 gallons
3.34 per thousand for the next 7,500 gallons
3.24 per thousand hereafter
B. Residence Outside City:
Monthly rates
$22.42 for 3,000 gallons minimum rate
4.64 per thousand for the next 7,500 gallons

SECTION 2.

This ordinance shall take precedence over any conflicting ordinances and all ordinances and parts of ordinances in
conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed, but only to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 4.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of this ordinance is for any reason held invalid or uncon-
stitutional by a final judgment of any court of competent jurisdiction, such portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct and
independent provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions thereof.
SECTION 5.
This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and approval and it is so ordained.
PASSED, EXAMINED AND APPROVED THIS THE 4th DAY of JANUARY, 2005.
