There are many ways in
which the game of football
can be compared to the
game of life. Having been a
high school and college
athlete. I appreciate the
principles of athletics that
can be applied to life in
general.
In any athletic contest.
.there arc always specific-
rules that have to be
followed. The same is true
of football and life The
Bible. God's Word, sets out
the guidelines and rules of
life. Follow the rules, ubev
(he standards and you arc
certain to come out on lop
Everv team has a coach.
Jesus Christ. God's own
Son. is Coach for the
Christian Team He has a
terrific game plan- abundant
life, life with a real plus,
life with a special sense of
meaning for all the folks
who join up on His team
He has already assured His
team of victory because He
has won out over His arch
rivals, sin and death.
During the game of life.
the pep talk from the Cuach
could go something like
this: “Be strong, for I have
overcome the world! Keep
plugging away. Greater is
He that is in you (the
Coach) than he (the devil,
•sir arch rival) who is on the
opposing team.**
At a ball game, it's rather
obvious that there arc more
people in the stands than on
the playing field How true
of life—more spectators
than participants. One of
the remarkable aspects
about playing on Christ's,
team is that votedon't have
to try-out. Y«hi don't have to
be in shape to get on the
team (don’t be misled
though; once on the team,
discipline and service are
parts of the workout). You
don't have to be big and
fast, have good hands. <tr be
able to throw the ball SO
sards Only one require-
ment rhe condition of, the'
human heart. As Christ
indicated, a willingness bv
faith to become as a little
child
B\ faith in Him as the
Son of God the Savina of
men. wc can climb down
out of the stands and'get
out on the field of play.
When we do. we’ll find
ourselves on a team with
other Christiana, come to
know the game plan, be
able to execute the plava of
the Kingdom, and best of
all. know the Coach Then,
after the big game is over,
the team will meet for its
Homecoming. It's Worth
asking: Which team are vou
<m and who's vnur coach?
