By George F. Rigotti
......aside from the fact that it hap-
pens every year about this time, we
still aren’t looking forward to the
time change this week end. Even
after going through it a couple times
a year, for quite a few years, we still
have trouble getting our digital time
pieces reset (even after a couple
practice sessions) and for a few days
are somewhat in the dark as to ex-
actly what time it is. And that’s real-
ly bad, since we are supposed to be
getting more daylight.
-gfr-
......and old friend says he too has
trouble with the time change and
digital time-pieces. However, he has
solved the problem by turning it
over to his grandson. The youngster,
who has grown up with the ‘new’
kind of timepieces, has no problem.
However, our friend says the boy
can’t do much with watches with
numerals—the old kind.
-gfr-
......along those lines we can’t help
but wonder what would happen if to-
day’s youngsters were to be involved
in the old time air battles. If so-
meone said 12 o’clock high, the
youngster wouldn’t know what it
was all about.
-gfr-
......and speaking of time and
darkness. If there were no darkness,
how could we really appreciate the
dawn?
-gfr-
......and a fellow member of the
procrastinators’ society says he’s
not worried about setting his watch.
He’ll get to it as soon as he can.
-gfr-
......just a thought: In the old days
education was sometimes sadly
neglected (or so today’s experts
say) as opposed to today when it is
often gladly neglected.
-gfr-
......from our mailbag: The drive
for a kinder, gentler America will
get somewhere when the me-
generation makes a you-tum!
-gfr-
......something new? Democracy
does not contain any force which will
check the constant tendency to put
more and more on the public
payroll. The state is like a hive of
bees in which the drones multiply
and starve the workers so the idlers
will consume the food and the
workers will perish. Some politi-
cians recent remark? Nope. Plato
wrote that several hundred years
ago.
-gfr-
......growing pains. First They
learn about the birds and the bees. H
Next they ask for the car keys.
-gfr-
......knowledge is an accumulation
of facts; true education is learning
which ones are worth accumulating.
-gfr-
......and we can’t help but wonder
who gave us economical and v
technical support when we were an
emerging nation.
-gfr-
......someone suggested a new zip
code for Washington, D.C. Says it
should be 00000; nothing there ever
adds up anyhow.
y -gfr-
......your character is what you
are; your reputation is what people
think you are. Once you get a reputa-
tion as an early riser you can sleep >
till noon.
-gfr-
......Mark Twain once said: Kind-
ness is a language which even the
blind can read and the deaf can
hear.
-gfr-
......our Old Timer Buddy says
that the average man’s biggest pro-
blem today is that his paycheck
comes minus tax; while his bills
come plus tax. ’nuff said!
