my Carter for favoring big oU.
In New York, Kennedy won
an upset with the Jewish vote
going for Kennedy by 4 to 1
and the Black vote having at
least a simple majority for
Kennedy, while only a few
weeks before, the Black vote
in Florida went to Carter.
In the Republican Party it is
pretty much a sweetheart deal.
In sweetheart situations, mem-
bers of minorities don’t have
as good a chance. Of course,
there is plenty to reform about
the Democratic Party, and we
Blacks should not permit our-
selves to be taken for granted.
But right now 1 see no other
home. Watch the Reagan crowd
when the T.V. camera pans on
them at their political meetings.
Those people are not likely to be
our friends.
I think the Democratic Party
could be more progressive.

Alma Fucles is not just an everyday woman. She stands heads
above most women at 6’3. She is a local poet and former model.
Alma, who has been writing poetry for many years, is looking for-
ward to sharing more of her works with the community and the na-
tion. She hopes to obtain a poetry grant to attend the school of act-
ing and writing in Los Angeles.
While talking she recalls the past, and no one can say it better than
she can.
“My plight into the poetic world originated long ago. Even as a
small child, I was painfully aware of the poverty that engulfed us.
To escape the pain, I learned to fantasize in the make-bdieve world
bestowed upon me through my poems.
