TU to offer
credit for
German courses
Trinity University’s foreign
language department will
offer full-credit German cour-
ses in the appropriate setting
of Graz, Austria, from May
22 until June 29, 1981.
Students who have taken at
least two semesters or an
equivalent of German langu-
age are eligible to earn
academic credit on the trip.
Application should be made
to Dr. Annelise Duncan of
the foreign language depart-
ment at 736-7526 by May 1.
Students of other institutions
may register as transient stu-
dents.
Symphony
performs
"1812 " at Ft. Sam
The San Antonio Symphony
will perform Sunday, May
3rd at 8:00 p.m. at the Fort
Sam Houston Parade
Grounds. This concert will be
combined with the Fifth Ar-
my Band Brass and will fra-

I want to share with you
some news about the Good
Neighbor Commission of Tex-
as. The Commission released
its annual report which high-
lights various activities and
programs of the past year.
Established in 1945 as an
extension of President
Roosevelt’s Good Neighbor
Policy, the comminion is
primarily designed to serve
as a laison between the
United States and Mexico
and other Latin American
countries in an effort to es-
tablish And cultivate the
principle of good neighbor-
liness. Objectives of the com-
mission are to cooperate with
groups involved in strength-
ening social, commercial and
cultural interchanges and
to assist in resolving prob-
lems which might affect
good relations and good
neighbors.
In carrying out these objec-
tives. the commiarion as-
ture a cannon and fireworks
display in the evening’s finale
the 1812 Overture.
Music Director Lawrence
Leighton Smith will conduct
the program of selected Pops
arid' light classics, including
Tchaikovsky's 1812 Over-
ture, Strauss' Thunder and
Lightning Polka, Lennon and
McCartney s Yesterday and
Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.
Bring along a blanket so you
can stretch out on the grass
and enjoy this dazzling extra-
vaganza of sight and sound.

Huaton-Tillotaon Alumni
held barbe cue dinner
The Huston-TUlotson
alumni and ex-students held a
Fiesta Bar-B-Cue dinner Fri-
day, April 24 at Pletz Park
from 11 to 5:30. Delicious
barbecue and all the trim
minge was served throng
out the day. Homemade
pies, cake and punch were
also on safe.
i This was the final fund
raising drive for the college
and more than $400 was
rawed for the worthwhile
cause.
Sunday morning the HTC
group worshipped at Jacob's
Chapel UMC.
During the worship ser-
vice. President Nell Hum-
phry gave very stimulating
remarks concerning Huston-
Tilotson College and other
black colleges as well, also
she presented a donation to
the church from the chapter.
Following the worship ser-
vice the group had lunch at
Luby’s Cafeteria, McCreless
Mai.
Other comminion activities
include providing translation
services free of charge to state
agencies and the general
public as well.
This past year over 173
requests were made for of-
ficial interpretations and
translations. During the
threat of hurricane Alert, the
comminion recorded infor-
mation on road conditio ns
in Spanish for the Depart-
ment of Highways and Public
Transportation. The informa-
tion was transmitted by the
Texn Stale Network.
The commbsion also serves
as a sponsor for the Pan
American Student Forum.
This organization is
composed of 3 junior and
senior high school chapters
acron the state which seek
to develop a sense of appre-
ciation and knowledge of
the social, education and cul-
tural characteristics of the
peoples of the western hernia
phrre The Pan Am Times, a
newsletter containing infor-
mation on the forum, was
pubihhed throughout the
year by the commission.
There arc but a few of the

of the Good Neighbor Com
mbrion of Texas.
