IURSDAY, APRIL 10, 1980
WITH THE GREEKS.........................
We HEAR that a delegation of some 25 or more local AKA’s jour-
neyed to Austin, last week end, for the Alpha Kappa Alpha regional
meeting, Thursday through Sunday, and they all have GLOWING re-
ports.....This week, and even as we jot, members of the local chapter
of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa are getting ready to
take off for Waco where their Southwest regional will be holding
forth this weekend....More about that later.....And we just MAY
have something about what happened during the Alpha Phi Alpha
meet in Galveston.....
—Jo’s Jottings—
Congratulations are in order for Josephine Young, who was re-
cently nominated by her superintendent for the Select Student
Administration program at Stephen F. Austin State University,
Nacogdoches, Texas.....This program is uniquely designed for out-
standing administrative prospects, and places emphasis on both field
experience and University course work.....Josephine is employed by
the Northside ISD at Mackey School for the Trainable Mentally Re-
tarded.....E.D. Cody is superintendent.
—Jo’s Jottings—
THE PERSONAL REALM......
Mr. and Mrs. R.L (Zelma) Brooks were pleasantly surprised during
the Easter Holidays by a visit from their children, Mr. and Mrs.
George E. (Mary Alice Brooks) Daniels and their beautiful teen-
age daughter, Glenda Jo...The Daniels’ were on their way back
home to Dallas, from Galveston, where George and their son,
George E. (Danny II) had been attending the Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Regional Convention....George, is the president of
Alpha Sigma Lambda Chapter, Dallas, Texas and Danny is a
member of the undergraduate Chapter at North Texas State Uni-
versity. Mary Alice was also recently honored by Alpha Xi Omega
Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority of which she is a member.
Glenda Jo and Danny are the god-children of Mrs. Sara Cook...
—Jo’s Jottings—
And, we don’t know whether YOU knew it or not, but WE cer-
tainly were not aware that one of the clergymen (the Rev. Nebon
D. Thompson) who flew to Iran to conduct Easter Services for
the American hostages, was a former San Antonian with still very
definite ties in the Alamo City.....His very proud grandmother is
Mrs. Mary J. Brooks, and his just as proud aunts and unde are Mrs.
Juanita Brooks Foster and Ms. Maureen Brooks, and James L.
(“Gator”) Brooks, all of this city....The Rev. Mr. Thompson,
puw bock at home and usafe and sound", is a very ^lominen;
minister in Kansas City where his charming wife is in the KC school
system.....Thought you'd like to know!
—Jo’s Jottings—
And speaking of former hometowners, we had the NICEST note
from an old friend and Register reader, Joshua J. Lankford, who
still makes her home in South Farmingdale, New York....Among
other things-and this will be of particular interest to the Wheatley
grads of ’40-he said he will very probably return for their sche-
duled reunion, come JULY.....We’re looking forward to it!
--Jo’s Jottings—
Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Lynn) Hood and datter, Sharrieffia, choae
the HUI country to spend Easter weekend with the grandmother,
Mrs. Deloris Posey....The family enjoyed worship at Mt. Olive,
Sunday, and Sharrieffia took part in the giant Easter Egg that fol-
lowed the service......And, also from Delores, comes word that
charming Darlene Norris, daughter of Mrs. Rosie Lee Norris of
Austin, who recently inducted into the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor
Society and elected to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Uni-
versities.......Darlene, who is also a member of Delta Sigma theta
Sorority, attends Huston-Tillotson College where she is an extreme-
ly busy and popular young lady.......
