Police beat
Auto thieves keep officers busy
Auto theft reports kept Baytown police
busy Monday as seven vehicles were
reported stolen from various locations
around the city.
Those included:
—A 23-year-old Crosby man told police
he lost his 1979 Toyota Celica to a female
hitchhiker he picked up in Channelview,
police said. He drove the woman to a trailer
park in the 3500 block of McKinney where
she asked him to “check out” her trailer
because she was afraid to go inside alone.
As he went to the trailer door, she drove
away in his car. Value of the vehicle is
estimated at $200.
—A brown .and yellow four-door 1982
Cadillac Sedan DeVille was reported stolen
from outside the 500 building at the apart-
ment complex at 3403 Garth sometime
Sunday. The car is valued at $5,000.
—A blue extended cab 1991 Silverado
pickup with license plate 5053-YC was
stolen from outside the 1100 building at the
same complex. That truck, which was
uninsured, is valued at $18,000.
—A tan-and-blue 1982 Buick Regal two-
door valued at $3,900 was reported stolen
from an apartment complex at 1000 North-
wood sometime Sunday.
—A blue 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass valued
at $700 was reported stolen from an apart-
ment complex at 510 Williams Sunday.
—A black 1977 Ford pickup truck with
license plate‘number 2867-WV was stolen
from the shopping center parking lot at 4900
Garth Monday when the owner left it parked
for only about 20 minutes.
—A 1979 Ford pickup track stolen from
outside the shopping mall at 6900 Garth
Monday was found later parked at the
Interstate 10 roadside park between Bay-
town and Highlands.
1 CRIME SCENE
During the 24 hours between Monday and
Tuesday mornings, Baytown police handled
111 complaints and investigated incidents
that included four traffic accidents, seven
liefts,
burglaries, seven thfefts, seven auto thefts,
one vandalism case, one assault and two
cases involving threats.
Officers arrested four suspects — one
each charged with family violence/assault,

Ross S. Sterling cheerleaders are geared up for the cheerleading clinic they will be spon-
soring for students in grades 3-8. The clinic will be held Oct. 26 in the girls gym from 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. The last day of early registration is Wednesday, at a cost of $10. Late

—Whoever stole $2,500 worth of tools
from a garage in the 1200 block of East
James helped themselves to some frozen
food as well, police said in a Monday report.
The burglary occurred sometime between
Oct. 13-20.
—Wheel rims valued at $80 were stolen
from a pickup track parked in the 1300
block of East James, according to a Monday
report. *
—Jewelry, coins and blue jeans were
reported stolen from a residence in the 1200
block of Sandy Lane Monday. Loss is
estimated at $480.
—Jon’s Mart, located at 307 South
Fourth, was burglarized sometime Monday.
Several cartons of cigarettes were taken.
Total loss is unknown.
—An $1,800 sprayer was stolen from a
vehicle parked in the 300 block of Massey-
Tompkins sometime Sunday Or Monday.
