The Light Touch
For March 4-8
During this period, parents
are encouraged to visit the
public schools, and all citizens
are urgad through special pro-
grams to recognise the tremen-
dous Importance of our system
of education. Our goal is to
make Texas public schools the
finest In the Nation, and to
achieve this our citizens are
urged to take an active Interest
in the school systems and to
cooperate with their school
boards, superintendents, prin-
cipals and teachers.
Never before in our history
has there been a greater need
for educated leadership. As we
rush to train young people In
science and technology to keep
pace with world events, it is
also Important to remember
that our public schools will
furnish our tomorrow's lead-
ers with the basic human, mo-
ral and spiritual foundations
necessary for more advanced
training and knowledge.
THEREFORE, I, as Gover-
nor of Texas, do hereby desig-
nate the period of March 4-8,
1968, as Public Schools Week

E. Schoonover, son of Mrs. Faye
Schoonover, Lnli a, has been pro-
moted to sergeant in the ’J. S.
Air Force
Sergeant Schoonover is a na-
vigation system repairman at
Bitburg AB, Germany. He is a
member of Ihe U S. Air Forces
in Europe.
The sergeant is a 196 i graduate
of Industrial High School in Van-
derbilt. He attended Southwest
I Texas State College.

led Sweey with 14 each.
The Horne s have another warm
up game scheduled with Edna on
Feb. 20th at Louise before their
bi-dis'rict game in February 27th
in Columbus with Weimar.

Heart Sunday
Drive, Feb. 25th
A residential canvasg here,giv-
ing every family a personal op-
portunity to advance the fight
against the heart and blood ves-
sel diseases, will get underway
Sunday, February 25th in Ganado
under the leadership of Mrs. Vi-
cena Green and Mrs. Katherine
Johnston as chairman and co-
chairman of Heart Sunday.
The residential calls will be
made by a volunteer corps num-
bering 25, reaching their high
point on Heart Sunday, February
25th. A year ago the Heart Sunday
effort realized over $400.00.

tribute literature telling parents
what they can do at present to
safeguard their children against
heart attack later in life:

selected for the All-District Foot-
ball Team, and was a'so chosen
the Most Athletic Boy of Ganado
High in his senior year.
After graduation he went to
Howard Payne College at Brown-
wood, Texas, on a 4-year Scholar-
ship and has le,,ered all 4 years.
John has been selected offensive
tackle on the All Lone Star Con-
ference Team tor three consecu-
tive yean, and was placed on the
1967 Texas A 1-College Team by
the Fort Worth Star Telegram
Newspaper. He was also honored
by the National Association of In-
tercollegiate Athletics, District IV.
John is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. B. F. Kubena of Ganado and
has a 12-year old brother, Frank.
