SNAP clinic in Baytown Tuesday EVCIlt
The Spay-Neuter Assis-
tance Program will visit
Baytown for a free spay
and neuter clinic for dogs
and cats on Tuesday.
The program is intended
to provide spay and neuter
service of pets belonging to
people who could not
afford to pay for it. Pets are
dropped off in the early
morning and are generally
ready for pick up between
4-5 p.m. Pets accepted for
treatment that do not have
proof of a rabies vaccina-
tion will be given a rabies
shot for free.
Generally free only to
qualified Harris County
residents, this clinic will
accept a limited number of
animals (up to 10 percent of
the animals treated) from
outside Harris County,
making the service avail-
able to the Baytown area’s
Chambers County resi-
dents.
Clients will be selected
from a lottery that will be
held beginning at approxi-
mately 6:30 a.m. when the
SNAP advance team
arrives on site at the city of
Baytown’s , animal shelter,
which is located at 705 N.
Robert Lanier Parkway.
People should bring their
dogs on leashes and cats in
secure carriers.
To qualify, clients must
show proof of participation
in one of the following pro-
grams - Food Stamps, Free
School Lunch Program,
Harris County Gold
Card/Medicaid, Section 8
Housing, SS1/SSD/ TANF,
W1C or show proof of a
major VA disability.
Having a pet spayed or
neutered is the best way to
ensure against unwanted
pet pregnancies and to
reduce the number of
unwanted litters and home-
less animals.
Those who don’t qualify
for the free service can call
713-862-8001 for informa-
tion about reduced-cost
spaying and neutering at
SNAP’s regular clinic.
SNAP’s mobile- clinic
was the' first free spaying
and neutering clinic on
wheels developed in the
United States and delivers
high-quality spay and
neuter services for animals
in low-income neighbor-
hoods where cost, trans-
portation and the lack of
veterinary services are
obstacles.to obtaining ani-
