To one man in particular, fhe late
Dr Herbert H. Dow, founds* of the
Dow Chemjcel Company goes a great
r.l,un of the credit. Dr. Dow cham-
pioned the cause of magnesium, third
most abundant engineering metal in
the earth's crust. His engineers and
scientists learned how to alloy the
metal and how te fabricate it. By
constant improvement in production
methods they_ jeyy|li'ped.,Itea^m£JtL
Dow-metal, henceforth to be the
nroduct of both sea and land, is a
silvery metal one-fourth the weight
of iron and one third lighter than al-
uminum, possessed of great strength,
toughness and durability, and speed-
ily fabricated by all common meth-
ods.
The growing demand of the ine^al
due to its wide use in the aviation,
bus, railroad and general transporta-
tion industries, as well as in the
manufacture of lightweight probable
tools and its broad application to
household and office appliances, is
what brought Dow face to face with
the immediate necessity of doubling
its production of magnesium alloys.
To obtain this additional produc-
tion Dow has turned to the sea, where
an qplimited source of magnesium i The above sale to be made by m'.
exists. And incidentally magnesium to satisfy the above described )u g-
can be recovered from sea water with; ment for Nine Hundred Twen y ve
less effort than from the land. In j and 51-100 ($926.81) D*8***> in^ • ^
