Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Hoppe visited
with their daughter in New
Braunfels this past weekend.
The Roger Albertsons enjoyed
company from Minnesota this past
weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Steve
Boyner and children, Tom and
Kristel. They enjoyed trips to North
and South Padre Island, Mexico and
Sea World.
Mrs. Aileen Albertson from
Galesville, Wis. has been visiting
her son and family for a month. She
will leave Tuesday for home.
Roger Albertson will return to
work Tuesday. He has been off sick
due to a fractured elbow. He is a
pilot for Northwest Airlines.
We are all happy about the long
overdue rains. My gauge measured
5.3 inches of rain. How the weeds do
grow!
Gene Brown’s Lab pup died of
Parvo, which effects young dogs.
This the the fifth dog on our street to
die.
The Wally Baxters spent the
weekend in Corpus Christi. He was
attending a Border Patrol meeting.
To live is not only to learn, but to
apply. Everything is a matter of pro-
per application.
2nd ANNIVERSARY-Maria (Mary Lou) and Wes Tilghman
celebrated their second anniversary Aprv 1. The couple recently mov-
ed to Mathis from San Antonio. Mrs. Tilghman, the daughter of Lupe
Mauricio of San Antonio and the niece of Benito and Juanita Lerma of
Mathis, grew up in Mathis.
Moses Aguilar Honored
On Second Birthday
Moses Aguilar, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Juan M. Aguilar, was honored
on his second birthday with a clown
party, Mar. 25.
The theme was carried out in the
decorations, the cake, the pinata and
the entertainment, which was pro-
vided by Lanky the Clown from Cor-
pus Christi.
Guests were entertained by
Lanky’s tricks and surprises, follow-
ed by the singing of Happy Birthday
ISIlfilPll
to the honoree.
Barbecue with all the trimmings
was served. Following the meal, the
pinata was broken and cake was
served.
Guests included Stacy and Aman-
da Moreno, the Hernandez family,
Mrs. H. Aguilar and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Manuel Ozuna and family,
Mrs. D. Gutierrez and Juan David
Gutierrez, Mr. and Mrs. Rolf

Jimmy Villarreal, Mr. and Mrs.

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED-Theresa J. Havelka of Corpus
Christi announced the engagement and approaching marriage of her
daughter, Melissa A. Havelka, to Raymond D. Polasek, son of Carol J.
Polasek of Tynan. A May 18 wedding is planned at St. Pius Catholic
Church in Corpus Christi. The bride-to-be is a 1983 graduate of Richard
King High School in Corpus Christi and is currently attending Del Mar
College. The prospective groom is a 1981 graduate of Skidmore-Tynan
High School and a 1987 graduate of Texas A&l University. He is
presently employed with Asgrow Seed Company at West Sinton.

Cabrera
Mr. and Mrs. Alfredo Cabrera an-
nounce the birth of their son, Alfredo
Jr., March 15,1990, at 12:21 p.m. at
Riverside Hospital.
At birth, he weighed 8 lbs., 1 oz.
and measured 20 inches in length.
He was welcomed home by his
sister, Nicole.
Maternal grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. Alejandro Olivarez Sr. of
Mathis. Paternal grandparents are
Moses Cabrera of Odessa and Erlin-
da Cabrera of Corpus Christi.
Maternal great-grandmother is
Asencion Olivarez of Mathis. Pater-
nal great-grandfather is Francisco
Cabrera of Edroy.
LOCAL
Bias Perez is a patient in the inten-
sive care unit at Humana Hospital in
Corpus Christi following surgery on
Monday.
He is expected to remain in the
hospital for another 10 days.

Holy Week Services
Slated At Grace Lutheran
Holy Week services will be held at
Grace Lutheran Church Apr. 8-14,
according to Pastor Ted Steenblock.
Passion/Palm Sunday will be
observed during the 10:30 a.m. ser-
vice Apr. 8, with the sermon, “Ex-
periencing Jesus’ Suffering and
Death.”
Tuesday morning, Apr. 10, from
6:45 to 7:35 a.m. Mathis Ministers
United is sponsoring a light
breakfast followed by a brief wor-
ship service led by Pastors
Steenblock and Bill Bragg at Grace
Church. The ladies of Grace Church
will serve the breakfast.
Other community services during
Holy Week will be held Monday at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Thursday at First United Methodist
Church and Friday at Tynan UCC
Church.
Mandy Thursday, Apr. 12, will be
observed at Grace Church with a
7:30 p.m. Lord’s Supper. On Good
Friday, Apr. 13, a Tenebrae, a ser-
vice of extinguishing lights, will be
held.
Services on Easter Sunday will in-
clude an outdoor 7 a.m. Sunrise Ser-
vice at Grace Church, followed by a
light breakfast.
A festive Easter Service will be
held at 10:30 a.m., celebrated with
special music and the Sacrament of
Holy Communion.
Members and friends of the
Church are invited to attend these
services.

from gravesites beginning Monday,
