Hope For Better
Radio Programs
The radio ta about to acquire a
competitor In the United States, and
one that may have a seroius ef-
fect upon Its business. Several
years ago a 'device was perfected
through which it is possible to
bring into the home by means of
telephone or electric light wires
every variety of material now broad-
cast. Us use has been held in abey-
ance because of the depression, bnt
It will soon appear in several A
merlcan cities. For monthly fees
ranging from $1.50 for ordinary
borne reception U> $4.60 for recep-
tion through loudspeakers la res-
taurants, hotel lobbies, etc., it will
be possible to got "radio” programs
entirely free of advertising, con-
tinuously from seven o’clock each
morning until one o’clock the fol-
lowing morning.
By turning a switch, the listener
can choose one of three "channels.”
the drat will carry popular music.
Including dance tunes played by the
(Oountry's leading bands. Most of
this material, and that on the other
channels, will oems from pteei
graph records of a quality, we are
promised, higher than anything now
commercially available. A second
channel will carry more eerlous
music. On the third will be broad-
cast the latest news, at frequent
intervals all day long, lectures, ad-
dresses, and other informative ma-
terial. _
