12, but that didn’t work
out because it was hard
to nail down judges and
days,” she added. “So this
was more convenient and-
it’s easier for him to re-
member our anniversary.”
They got a marriage li-
cense and on that special
Valentine’s Day, the cou-
ple walked into an ambient
room that provided the set-
ting for their marriage. St.
Louis, 32, walked in first
with her family, including
her mother. Merle Spencer,
who was her maid of honor.
Robert Nelson hadn’t
been 'inside the room half
a minute before he saw his
bride and placed a kiss on
her lips.
“I love you," he said to
his bride; she told him the
same.
Nelson, 29, then proceed-
ed • to greet Spencer and
some of St. Louis' other rel-
atives.
Nelson’s best man, Greg
P. Audel, who had arrived
a half-hour before the mar-
riage began, was eager
to see the couple’s union
sealed.
“I’m excited for Robert
to do this before he ships
off; 1 guess I’m too excited
because I got here earlier
than everyone,” Audel said.
The moment had arrived
as minister Lynn Turner,
who is based in Deer Park,
provided the couple with
some direction of where
to stand and the relatives
where to sit. St. Louis and
her mother waited behind a
row of chairs to walk down
the aisle toward Nelson.
Minister Turner, like
most marriages she leads,
explained the importance
of a marriage, sprinkled
the ceremony with some
prayer, and declared the
couple united.
“We met through mutu-
al friends, but we are both
Baytown natives who were
bom and raised here,” Nel-
son explained later. "I went
to Sterling and she attended
Lee high school.”
.With his Navy enlistment,
Nelson said he expects to be
sent to boot camp in March,
then Pensacola, Fla,, then
eventually to a base in San
Deigo, where he will train
in aviation electronics in
efforts to become a Navy
copilot.
Once settled, his wife,
who currently is a manager'
at a Baytown pizza restau-
rant, will be relocated to
San Diego to join him.
Both said they are appre-
ciative of the opportunity
to have a free wedding at
Cullen’s restaurant, a cere-
mony that could have cost
upwards of SI0,000, said
owner Kevin Munz.
“There’s a reason we
have been voted ‘Most Ro-
mantic Restaurant’ over and
over again,” Munz said.
The Nelsons were the
only couple to actually wed,
although several couples re-
newed their wedding vows.
“We are always trying to
do something new,” said

Roberts said it is the first

“What’s more romantic
than getting married and
then sitting down to din-
ner with your family and
friends?” Roberts said. “It
was a real special day for
everybody involved.”
It was Nelson’s grand-
mother, Carol Nelson, also
of Baytown, who actually
learned of “Ministers on
Demand” in a newspaper
article and suggested the
couple wed there.
Stricken with an illness,
she was unable to attend the
actual ceremony but Nel-
son said his grandmother
■helped to get the wedding
rings, outfits and wedding
party together.
