Ward and David Coker, seated; Steve Meisick, from left, Scott Ward, Jimmy Coker and Dong-

Highlands WCID Approves
2 Business Service Taps
HIGHLANDS (Sp)- Service
taps for two Highlands: busi-
nesses were unanimously
approved by directors of
Harris County Water Control
and Improvement District No.
1, but tie-ins for a subt
and a duplex passed, but met
opposition in a 34 vote.
Water-sewer taps for Pacer
Building Systems, a new auto
parts store on Main, and a
sewer tip.for additional office
space being constructed at
SMS Industries "at 409 E~
Wallisville were approved
unanimously.
However, Director Oliver
Harman voted against
motion to approve water-sewer
tie-ins for the Jan-Jack Estates
Subdivision, being developed
by Jack Lindsay of Highlands,
subject to final approval of the
subdivision by the county
health departments' “
Harman said he felt it was
unwise to approve the tie-ini
when the action of the board
would be called into question —
Jy the Texas Water Qualify
Korenek said he felt other
residents of the area would
resent the board giving , ap-
proval of a multiple dwelling in
the area. Other board; mem-
bers, however, said it was not
in the jurisdiction of the board
refuse service on these
grounds. , •
In other business the direc-
tors authorized District Man-
ager Eddie Harvill to check
with local auditors and make a
recommendation to the
at the next meeting for a
auditor for the district,
expressed a desire to have an
auditing firm that would be
available for consultation and
more aware of special needs of
the district.
The directors Also gave
authorization for district
hourly employes to receive
their pay checks every other
Friday instead of on the first
and 15th of each month.
They authorized Harvill to
offer |400 to be increased to
$425 as starting phy for a new.,
bookkeeper for the district,
said the district was
time and money , train-
bookkeepers who quit after
short time on the job. He said
the increase in starting pay
might enable the district to
employ a permanent book-
keeper.
The board meeting for Jan-
uary was changed from the
second Tuesday, which falls on
election day; Jan. 1L to tow
third Tuesday, Jan. 18.
