Housewives Change From Kitchen To Radio Show
ByJOYSTILLEY

switched from the heat of the
kitchen to the even more in-
tense heat of the business world
are urging other women to fol-
low their lead.
Teddi Levtson and Mickie Sil-
verstein, who host a radio talk
show in Atlanta, see many al-
ternatives to the traditional 9-
to-5 office job, including their
own unique arrangement.
“We share one job and one
salary,” explains Mrs. Levison.
“The office never knows which
one of us 18 going to show up,”
adds Mrs. Silverstein. The two
write and produce their docu-
mentaries as a team and usual-
ly do their show together once
a week, but the rest of the time
they split up their working
days. ...........
“There are very few jol
that women can’t share,” Mrs.
Silverstein continues. “They
can run a store together, divide
a copywriter’s job, an adminis-
trative position or a social
worker’s case load.”
The slim, long-haired blondes
recently expanded their own
collaboration by writing a book,
“Have You Had It In The
Kitchen?”Theytheinselveshad
it one afternoon eight years
ago. “Mickie had just gotten
'back from Florida and was
teaching me the bossa nova,”
Mrs. Levison recalls. “Our hair
was in curlers, the kids were
running around the living room
said ‘There has to be more to
Ufe than this’.’’ '
“We sat down and took stock

college for three years, taking
a liberal arts course that only
fits you for taking a secretarial
course after you get out. We
decided to make the most of
our organisational talent and
writing ability.”

they prefer women’s dignity or
women's humanism. "We are
basically In agreement with the
man having two-hour martini
lunches but if a woman has to
take time out for an emergency
with her Idds she usually has to
lie and say she’s sick.

tur femininity to get in, but
ity to do the job.”
Hie authors believe business-
should allow women to work
ny-nose children and suburban
car pools but who still want ca-
reers to use their minds and be
human beings.”
Hie two say there is no rea-
son for working mothers to feel
guilty. "I can think of no dis-
advantage to the children of
working mothers,” Mrs. Levi-
son, mother of three, declares
you must have the ahU- "They seem to get along better
than those whose mothers stand

telling them what to do.”
Mrs. Silverstein, mother o
two, adds it is the husband wh<
has to give up the most when
his wife goes to work. “She has
all she can do to keep the house
functioning and he has to give
up some comforts and some of
his wife's time. But in return
he gets a woman who is
whole person, notan appendage
of himself."
While admitting that running
a home and having a career at
the same time can be
struggle-and both are in favor
of having household help even if
it takes must uf the paycheck—
they think the rewards justify
the effort^Hi^^^B
“Career women are in-
variably better groomed, more
stylish and younger looking and
have a zestful outlook," Mrs
Silverstein points out "At a
cocktail party after five min-
utes you can tell which woman
stays home and which goes to,
POLITICS may take a woman out of the house, but they can’t always take the
housewife out of a woman. “Eat!" commands a grandmotherly Premier Golds Melr
