Manziel, Petty earn first-team honors

For the second consecu-
tive year. Texas A&M quar-
terback Johnny Man/iel was
named first-team All-SEC
after passing for 3,732 yards.
Baylor's Bryce Petty was
also honored as the Offen-
sive Player of the Year in the
Big XII conference, along
w ith first-team QB.
Man/iel, a Kerrville native
and 2012 Meisman I rophy
winner, tossed 33 touch-
I3 Lour Star Stall1 natives land on Big XII award
list, six from conference champion Baylor
downs during his sophomore
season, the most in the SIC.
Known for his elusive,
play-making abilities,
‘‘Johnny Football” also
rushed for 6X6 yards and X
touchdowns in what many
think is his final season in
College Station.
Galveston Ball's Mike I v*
ans and Jake Matthews also
earned first-team honors for
the Aggies.
Midlothian native Petty
finished his junior season
with 30 TDs for the Big XII
champion Bears.
Petty threw for 3,844
yards and was picked off
only twice.
Four Bears earned first-
team honors on the offensive
side of the ball, and two on
defense.
Longhorn defensive line-
man Jackson Jeffcoat was
named Big XII defensive
Player of the Year. Texas
landed four on the first team.
Nine players on the first-
team offense hail from the
Lone Star State, and four
on the defensive side of the
hall.
Texas Tech finished with
three first teamers and Texas
Christian University defen-
sive back Jason Vcrrett was
a unanimous pick.

Watson had a big game
in the tournament opener
Thursday, scoring a doz-
en in a two-point win over
North Shore junior varsity.
GUM finished the tour-
nament 3-1 and sit at 9-3
on the season.
Lone Gander Hockless
had a solid tournament,
leading Lee to a last-sec-
ond win over 5A Deer
Park on day one of the
Classic.
Aaron Brown of C rosby
also earned All-Tourna-
ment team honors.
In 2012, only Iyrone
Massicot of CiCM earned
a spot on the team.

and redfish are fair while
drifting mud and shell. Wad-
ers have taken better trout
on the Louisiana shoreline
on slow-sinking plugs in the
afternoon. Tides are below
normal.
• SOUTH SABINE: Red-
fish are fair on the edge
of the channel on mullet.
Sheepshead and black drum
arc good at the jetty on live
shrimp.
• BOLIVAR: Trout are fair
to good on the south shore-
line on slow-sinking plugs.
Black drum and redfish arc
good at Rollover Pass.
• TRINITY BAY: Trout
are good for drifters work-
ing pods of shad and mullet
on Bass Assassins. Trout
Killers and Sand Eels. Red-
fish are good at the spillway
on crabs and mullet. Tides
are below normal.
• LAST GALVESTON
BAY: Whiting and sand
trout are good on the edge
of the Intracoastal on fresh
shrimp. Trout are good over
the deep reefs on plastics
when the wind allows.
• WEST GALVESTON
BAY: Trout are fair to good
for waders working the mud
and shell in the afternoon
on MinrOlures and Corkies.
Sheepshead. redfish and
black drum are good at the
jettv on shrimp and crabs.
• TEXAS CITY: Redfish
and sand trout are fair to
good in the holes in Moses
Lake on fresh shrimp. The
channel edges have held
trout, black drum and a
few flounder on Gulps and
shrimp.
• FREEPORT: Sand trout
and sheepshead are fair to
good on live shrimp on the
reefs. Redfish are fair to
good at San Luis pass on
cracked blue crabs.
• EAST MATAGORDA
BAY: Trout arc fair for
drifters on soft plastics over
humps and scattered shell.
Redfish are fair to good on
the edge of the Intracoastal
on crabs and mullet.
• WEST MATAGORDA
BAY: Trout are good in the
Colorado River on glow
plastics. Redfish are fair to
good on the south shoreline
in the guts and bayous.
• PORT O’CONNOR:
Trout and redfish arc fair
on Corkies over soft mud in
waist-deep water in San An-
tonio Bay. T rout and redfish
arc fair for drifters working
reefs on live shrimp. Redfish
are good at the mouths of
drains.
